Job Description

The Blast Technician will operate blasting equipment to remove surface contaminants from turbine engine components, preparing them for repairs and painting. This role involves hands-on training and responsibilities that increase with skill development, working in a team-oriented environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform a variety of blast techniques on turbine engine components using different equipment.
  • Prepare parts for blasting through masking and taping.
  • Set up and operate blast machines according to work instructions and specifications.
  • Secure supplies and tooling before starting operations.
  • Conduct routine inspections of blast equipment.
  • Clean, adjust, and maintain equipment using hand tools.
  • Utilize overhead crane and lifting equipment.
  • Follow written and verbal instructions accurately.
  • Communicate work-related problems and issues with supervisors or other departments.

Requirements

  • Two years work experience in a manufacturing setting.
  • Experience with and or a familiarity with pressure gages.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform basic shop math, including working with decimals and fractions.
  • Possess a solid mechanical aptitude and the ability to understand step-by-step processes from the reading of work instructions.
  • High school or technical school graduate or equivalent.
  • Ability to learn the proper use of hand-tools while demonstrating good eye-hand coordination.
  • Read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
  • Able to work in enclosed spaces.
  • Use of safety and personal protective equipment is mandatory under some conditions, including safety glasses, Tyvek jumpsuit, and supplied air respirator.
  • Follow general shop safety procedures including the use of safety glasses, safety toe shoes, gloves, and hearing protection.
  • Move parts weighing up to 50 pounds using hoists, slings, carts, or other handling methods.
