Job Description
The Director, Land Development is responsible for managing complex real estate title and survey projects in the renewable energy sector, overseeing a team, conducting due diligence, resolving title issues, negotiating agreements, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to support the development of large-scale renewable infrastructure projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage a team of professionals in land development activities.
- Perform due diligence on title reports, deeds, legal descriptions, and surveys to verify ownership and evaluate title condition.
- Identify, track, and resolve title curative issues and provide status updates.
- Negotiate and lead the underwriting of title insurance with outside counsel and financing parties.
- Coordinate revisions of ALTA surveys and communicate site constraints with engineering teams.
- Conduct outreach and negotiate agreements with landowners and third parties to resolve title issues.
- Review and revise legal agreements such as leases, easements, and amendments in collaboration with outside counsel.
- Coordinate mineral research and surface waiver agreements with support from consultants.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams during development and financing phases.
- Oversee external consultants, including scope of work, contracts, and quality review.
Requirements
- Minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in real estate title and land development with knowledge of renewable energy project development, utilities, interconnection, permitting, and renewable energy technologies.
- Bachelor's degree in business administration, law, land use planning, engineering, or another relevant field (preferred).
- Ability to work from one of the Copia Offices located in Washington, D.C., Salt Lake City, UT, Lake Oswego, OR, or Dana Point, CA, with a minimum of 3 days a week in the office.
- Ability to travel up to 30%.
