Job Description
The Controller will oversee the accounting function of a rapidly growing solar energy development firm, responsible for financial reporting, multi-entity accounting, and improving accounting processes. This role requires a strong background in accounting, particularly in the solar development sector, and aims to foster a culture of excellence within the accounting team.
Key Responsibilities
- Create a best-in-class accounting function and drive continuous improvement.
- Manage complex multi-entity accounting, including high transaction volumes and merger acquisition accounting.
- Lead the timely closing of financial statements for multiple entities and stakeholders.
- Transition the accounting function from external accountants to in-house.
- Build out reports and processes related to the new NetSuite accounting system.
- Improve project and cost accounting to track expenses against budgets.
- Enhance existing accounting policies and create new ones to ensure best practices.
- Ensure organization, security, and storage of accounting documents and data.
- Improve the quality and timeliness of the financial close process.
- Create efficient processes for multi-entity intercompany transactions and consolidation.
- Develop standardized accounting procedures to optimize business processes.
- Serve as the technical accounting expert to ensure US GAAP compliance.
- Ensure timely compliance with local, state, and federal tax reporting and filing requirements.
Requirements
- 10 years of accounting experience, including at least 5 years as a Controller or Director of Accounting.
- 4 years of solar development and/or related financing industry experience, with a strong preference for experience accounting for project development and construction within the commercial and industrial sector (IPP model).
- Strong knowledge of accounting for various debt financing structures as a borrower, including development, construction, and term debt facilities.
- Experience in accounting for inter-company entity transfers, project acquisitions, and non-controlled interest accounting.
- Solid experience in managing treasury functions, including all aspects of funding projects, intercompany cash transfers, and debt facility compliance reporting.
- Strong tax equity accounting experience, including investment structures, tax benefits, and reporting.
- Deep understanding of project finance, development finance activities, and Power Purchase Agreements.
- CPA required, or proof of significant experience managing technical accounting and external auditors.
