The Wind Technician is responsible for maintaining and troubleshooting wind turbine mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical components to ensure safe, efficient, and profitable wind turbine operations, with opportunities for career progression and on-site teamwork.
Key Responsibilities
Assist in performing wind turbine mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical maintenance
Document work performed, parts used, and time spent using service reporting procedures
Troubleshoot and repair SCADA communication systems
Operate and maintain service vehicles and hand tools
Follow safety procedures and maintain a safe working environment
Work on all areas of site operations as directed by supervisors
Perform mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical component repairs and replacements
Read and understand electrical schematics and wiring diagrams
Lead maintenance and troubleshooting crews as necessary
Perform lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures and mentor lower-level technicians
Requirements
A high school diploma or GED required or willing to obtain within the first 6 months of employment.
Able to climb towers unassisted up to 300 feet.
Able to work safely in a confined space.
Must possess a valid driver’s license and have a good driving record.
Possess demonstrable mechanical aptitude and basic electrical knowledge.
Able to work with electrical wires and differentiate between color coded wires.
Able to work safely in a wide range of adverse climates and environments.
Able to travel as required.
Ability to read schematics and wiring diagrams (preferred).
Able to communicate verbally and in writing and work without direct supervision during work performance.
Able to create, edit, or modify Microsoft Word and Excel documents.
Must meet the requirements of Clearway Energy Group’s Qualified Electrical Worker program.
An Associate’s degree in electrical or technical field and six months of turbine experience, or a high school diploma/GED and one year of wind turbine experience (Level II requirement).
An Associate’s degree in electrical or technical field and two years of turbine experience, or a high school diploma/GED and three years of wind turbine experience (Level III requirement).
Benefits & Perks
Salary range of $45,000 - $90,000 depending on experience and location
Work schedule includes flexible on-call hours, possibly including weeknights, weekends, and holidays
