Job Description
The Wind Technician is responsible for maintaining and repairing wind turbine components to ensure safe, efficient, and reliable operation, with opportunities for advancement and working in various environments and schedules.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in maintaining wind turbine mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical components.
- Perform troubleshooting and repair of wind turbine systems, including SCADA communication systems.
- Document work performed, parts used, and time spent using service reporting procedures.
- Operate and maintain service vehicles and hand tools.
- Follow safety procedures and maintain a safe working environment.
- Assist in all site operations as directed by supervisors.
- Lead maintenance and troubleshooting crews when necessary.
- Perform mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical component maintenance, repair, and replacement.
- Read and understand electrical schematics and wiring diagrams.
- Perform lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures and mentor others in LOTO safety practices.
Requirements
- A high school diploma or GED is required, or willingness to obtain one within the first 6 months of employment.
- Able to climb towers unassisted up to 300 feet.
- Able to work safely in a confined space.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and have a good driving record.
- Possess demonstrable mechanical aptitude and basic electrical knowledge.
- Able to work with electrical wires and differentiate between color-coded wires.
- Able to safely work in a wide range of adverse climates and environments.
- Able to travel as required.
- Ability to read schematics and wiring diagrams is preferred.
- Able to communicate verbally and in writing, and able to work without direct supervision during performance of work.
- Able to create, edit, or modify Microsoft Word and Excel documents.
- Must meet the requirements of Clearway Energy Group’s Qualified Electrical Worker program.
- For Level II: An Associate’s degree in electrical or technical field and six months turbine experience, or a high school diploma/GED and one year wind turbine experience.
- For Level III: An Associate’s degree in electrical or technical field and two years of turbine experience, or a high school diploma/GED and three years of wind turbine experience.
Benefits & Perks
Salary range of $45,000 to $90,000 depending on experience and location
Work schedule includes flexible on-call hours, possibly including weeknights, weekends, and holidays
