Job Description
This role involves supporting the analysis of CAISO and WECC power markets with a focus on transmission analysis, congestion, and curtailment risk, to aid in project development and energy optimization for renewable energy assets.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform short- and medium-term SCED studies for basis, curtailment, and congestion analysis.
- Support energy optimization trading team with scenario-based analysis to mitigate market risks.
- Analyze market impacts from planned generation, transmission, and retirements.
- Provide insights into congestion and curtailment for offtake structures.
- Maintain updates to internal production-cost models based on energy market changes.
- Lead engagements with external transmission consultants for independent reports.
- Participate in ISO, RTO, and PUC transmission and planning stakeholder meetings.
- Support long-term fundamental market view development by analyzing interconnection queue and new builds.
- Provide updated views on zonal transfer flow limits based on transmission upgrades.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems or related field
- 3 years of experience in an analytical role at a renewable energy developer, ISO, RTO, energy trading firm, or other relevant experience
- 2 years of related power systems, electric market design, or energy trading experience
- 2 years of experience performing production-cost modeling analyses using SCED software platforms (e.g., PLEXOS, Dayzer, PROMOD, UPLAN, or GridView)
- Knowledge of market fundamentals within the CAISO WECC
- Knowledge of power system and market analysis tools including power flow, contingency analysis, and production-cost modeling
- Understanding of transmission systems, power flow, congestion, and curtailment
- Fundamental knowledge of how solar, wind and battery storage assets operate within the various energy markets
- Working knowledge of SQL and Python or another programming language
- Knowledge of ISO and RTO wholesale market operations and applicable state regulations
- Working knowledge of the various forms of capacity and ancillary services markets
- Proven problem-solving and negotiation skills
- Strong verbal and written communication skills and a high level of attention to detail
- Ability to exercise discretion and independent judgment

Compensation/salary range: 110,000 - 155,000 USD
