Job Description
The GIS Development Intern will support land management data preparation, digitization, spatial data analysis, and map development for renewable energy projects, gaining hands-on experience in project development and GIS software within a fast-paced clean energy company.
Key Responsibilities
- Support in preparing and importing spatial data into land management software
- Digitize lease boundaries using PLSS land descriptions
- Gather, analyze, and present spatial data using GIS software
- Develop maps in ArcGIS Desktop for online and printed formats
- Learn about project development milestones from proposal to construction
- Support development of alternative approaches to reduce permitting risks and optimize schedules
- Assist in developing user interfaces for permitting and environmental teams in ArcGIS Online
Requirements
- Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in GIS, Engineering, Environmental Science, Computer Science or a related field
- Experience in creating maps using ArcGIS Desktop ArcMap or ArcGIS Pro
- Exposure to or interest in learning the ArcGIS Online web platform
- Interest and fundamental knowledge of the renewable energy industry and US electricity infrastructure
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Microsoft Excel
- Ability to work well in a collaborative environment that emphasizes attention to detail, meeting deadlines, and working together to achieve company-wide objectives
- Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to ask questions, listen to colleagues, and contribute ideas
- Self-motivated, dependable, and accountable, showing up, being present, and eager to dive into the workday
- Ability to work independently, multitask, and take ownership over projects and assignments
- Willingness to ask questions and speak up when tasks are completed or additional work is available
