Job Description
A Senior Backend Developer role focused on designing and building high-performance, cloud-native data processing systems using technologies like Spark, Presto Trino, and Iceberg, to support Celonis's process mining platform and handle large-scale data workloads.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and implement high-performance systems to manage large data requests
- Develop and optimize features and algorithms for core data platforms
- Mentor and collaborate with team members to improve development practices
- Write clean, testable, and understandable code
- Manage project priorities, deadlines, and deliverables
- Document development procedures, concepts, and knowledge
- Build, launch, and maintain features in production environments
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field; a Master's degree or Ph.D. is preferred.
- At least 3 years of hands-on software engineering experience.
- Familiarity with containerization technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes.
- Hands-on experience with ETL tools, including Spark, Presto Trino, Starrocks, Iceberg, and performance tuning.
- Ability to design and implement critical high-performance systems to handle increasing request rates on backend infrastructure.
- Knowledge of best practices in database usage and end-to-end architecture.
- Experience in developing and maintaining features in production environments.
- Ability to recognize and take action to improve the developer work environment.
- Proficiency in writing clean, understandable, and testable code.
- Experience managing individual project priorities, deadlines, and deliverables.
- Ability to document development procedures, concepts, and knowledge clearly.

Base salary range: 166,000 - 204,000 USD (for New York location)
