A Linux kernel engineer responsible for developing, maintaining, and integrating hardware support within Ubuntu, collaborating with upstream developers and hardware vendors to optimize performance, power efficiency, and hardware compatibility across various platforms.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and maintain high-quality kernel support for various hardware devices
Collaborate with upstream developers and hardware vendors to integrate hardware support into Ubuntu
Diagnose and resolve kernel issues reported by QA, customers, and the community
Enable new Linux kernel features based on customer requests
Submit, review, and apply kernel patches in collaboration with upstream maintainers
Work with external silicon and hardware manufacturers on platform development
Analyze root causes of kernel issues and develop fixes
Collaborate with a distributed team and external partners on hardware and platform development
Requirements
Demonstrated ability to present oneself in a professional manner when interacting with colleagues, business partners, and the open source community
Ability to communicate effectively in English, both written and oral
Significant programming experience in C, with Python and Bash scripting also highly regarded
Solid background with git
Knowledge of the Linux kernel and kernel subsystems
Demonstrated experience with kernel patching and debugging
Knowledge experience with Linux kernel upstream processes and release cycle
Strong grasp of device drivers, BSPs, and other low level system engineering
Prior experience with Ubuntu Debian Snap packaging would be highly regarded
Knowledge of ACPI and UEFI is desirable
Willing to travel globally up to 4 times a year for internal and external engineering events
