Job Description
This role involves designing, developing, and maintaining scalable, high-quality microservices and web services in Go and Python, with a focus on API design, performance, security, and DevOps practices, supporting Ubuntu's global infrastructure and community.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop scalable, high-quality REST API microservices in Go and Python
- Write tests to validate software behavior and ensure robustness
- Build and maintain reliable, fault-tolerant distributed applications and services
- Collaborate with global teams on software architecture, API design, and documentation
- Debug issues and produce high-quality solutions
- Contribute to technical documentation and best practices
- Participate in code reviews and technical discussions
- Implement security analysis techniques such as fuzzing and tracing for distributed systems
- Optimize database performance and design for scalability
- Engage in proactive DevOps practices to improve deployment, resilience, and performance
Requirements
- An undergraduate degree in Computer Science or STEM, or a compelling narrative about your alternative path
- Proficiency in Python and/or Go programming languages
- History of writing modern, maintainable software
- Experience with relational and non-relational database systems
- Continuous integration and continuous delivery experience
- Experience with systems programming or scalable web services
- Professional written and spoken English skills
- Experience with Linux Debian or Ubuntu preferred
- Excellent interpersonal skills, curiosity, flexibility, and accountability
- Passion, thoughtfulness, and self-motivation
- Excellent communication and presentation skills
- Result-oriented with a personal drive to meet commitments
- Ability to travel twice a year, for company events up to two weeks each
