Job Description

This role involves designing, developing, and maintaining scalable, high-quality microservices and web services in Go and Python, with a focus on API design, performance, security, and DevOps practices, supporting Ubuntu's global infrastructure and community.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop scalable, high-quality REST API microservices in Go and Python
  • Write tests to validate software behavior and ensure robustness
  • Build and maintain reliable, fault-tolerant distributed applications and services
  • Collaborate with global teams on software architecture, API design, and documentation
  • Debug issues and produce high-quality solutions
  • Contribute to technical documentation and best practices
  • Participate in code reviews and technical discussions
  • Implement security analysis techniques such as fuzzing and tracing for distributed systems
  • Optimize database performance and design for scalability
  • Engage in proactive DevOps practices to improve deployment, resilience, and performance

Requirements

  • An undergraduate degree in Computer Science or STEM, or a compelling narrative about your alternative path
  • Proficiency in Python and/or Go programming languages
  • History of writing modern, maintainable software
  • Experience with relational and non-relational database systems
  • Continuous integration and continuous delivery experience
  • Experience with systems programming or scalable web services
  • Professional written and spoken English skills
  • Experience with Linux Debian or Ubuntu preferred
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, curiosity, flexibility, and accountability
  • Passion, thoughtfulness, and self-motivation
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Result-oriented with a personal drive to meet commitments
  • Ability to travel twice a year, for company events up to two weeks each
