Job Description
A role within Canonical's Partner Engineering Team focused on optimizing Ubuntu for new silicon technologies and architectures, collaborating with global teams and customers to ensure seamless hardware and software integration across various platforms and use cases.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate within a distributed team to optimize Ubuntu for new silicon technologies.
- Evaluate contributions from other engineers to maintain high-quality software standards.
- Shape the future of Ubuntu by contributing new ideas and advising on ongoing work.
- Collaborate with upstream projects, community teams, and customers to integrate and optimize applications and OS images.
- Debug issues in open source and team-maintained code.
- Maintain and develop silicon features and optimized packages across various platforms and technologies.
- Assist customers with app integration, SDKs, and OS image building.
- Contribute to hardware enablement stacks, package management, security features, and platform security.
Requirements
- Exceptional academic track record from both high school and university or a compelling narrative about an alternative chosen path
- Undergraduate degree in a technical subject or equivalent experience
- Strong fundamentals in C, C++, and Python programming languages
- Experience or interest in learning Linux distribution packaging
- Experience or interest in open source maintenance or contribution and licenses
- Fundamental understanding of package management and dependency resolution
- Ability to collaborate proactively within a distributed team
- Ability to evaluate contributions of other engineers to maintain high-quality software standards
- Experience in debugging issues on open source code and team maintained code
- Experience in helping customers to integrate their apps, SDKs, build OS images, and optimize applications with Ubuntu Core, Desktop, and Server
- Experience in maintaining Ubuntu, silicon features, and silicon-optimized packages across platforms and technologies such as Servers, HPC, AI systems, IoT devices, PCs, SmartNICs, and automotive systems
- Experience or interest in working with AI stacks, graphics, audio, multimedia stacks, virtualization, containers, hardware enablement stacks, new architectures, architecture variants, and optimized toolchains
- Experience or interest in platform security features such as secure boot, FDE, Ubuntu Core, and Confidential Computing
- Experience or interest in working with networking protocols and technologies such as TCP/IP, DHCP, HTTP REST
- Experience or interest in IoT and embedded systems, including board-level hardware, SoCs, BMCs, bootloaders, firmware, operating systems, applications, and services
