Job Description
A Graduate Software QA Engineer at Canonical is responsible for testing and improving the quality of Ubuntu products through automated and manual testing, collaborating with global teams, and contributing to quality processes to ensure reliable and high-quality software delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform automated and manual testing of Ubuntu Desktop, Server, and Core on various hardware
- Improve automated test capabilities through design and coding contributions
- Identify, isolate, and document product bugs clearly and concisely
- Collaborate with project teams to ensure consistent project execution
- Suggest solutions to identified product problems
- Collect quality data and establish proactive measures to improve platform quality and reliability
- Build efficient automated testing processes in collaboration with development teams
- Triage test reports and customer bugs
- Estimate time and schedule testing activities
- Identify and address process bottlenecks in quality assurance
Requirements
- Perform automated and manual testing of Ubuntu Desktop, Server and Core on various latest hardware.
- Suggest solutions to identified product problems.
- Collaborate with the Project team to ensure consistent project execution.
- Identify quality assurance process bottleneck and suggest improvements.
- Collect quality data.
- Establish proactive measures to improve the quality and reliability of the Ubuntu platform.
- Prepare time estimates and schedule for testing activities.
- Identify, isolate, and document bugs clearly and concisely in the bugs database.
- Work with development teams across multiple projects to build efficient, effective automated testing.
- Communicate effectively with colleagues in a variety of time zones around the world.
- Triage test reports and customer bugs.
- Have a passion for Linux desktop and related technologies.
- Have experience with common scripting languages, including Shell script, Python or JavaScript.
- Be comfortable with online communication and collaboration tools such as mailing lists, Mattermost, and wiki.
- Possess excellent logic, problem solving, and troubleshooting skills.
- Have strong written and spoken communication skills in English.
- Be able to be productive in a globally distributed team.
- Have the ability to pick up new technologies and achieve high effectiveness quickly.
