Job Description
The Engineering Director at Canonical leads and manages hardware enablement and quality assurance teams to ensure the stability, certification, and performance of Ubuntu across various hardware architectures, driving continuous improvement and innovation in open source software development.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage software engineering teams focused on hardware enablement quality assurance and testing.
- Oversee quality planning, automation, and manual testing of Ubuntu on various hardware architectures.
- Develop and improve automated testing capabilities and ensure continuous quality and certification of hardware.
- Collaborate with development teams to build efficient testing processes and triage test results.
- Establish and enforce engineering processes to improve product quality, reliability, and performance.
- Hire, develop, and mentor engineering managers and staff engineers, fostering team growth and culture.
- Set project priorities, plan roadmaps, and ensure timely delivery of testing and quality objectives.
- Represent the product and team to stakeholders, partners, and customers, including OEMs.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives in hardware enablement and certification processes.
- Measure team health, productivity, and quality indicators to ensure high standards and progress.
Requirements
- The candidate must have an outstanding Linux based software engineering track record, preferably with low-level embedded experience.
- The candidate must have an undergraduate degree in a technical subject or a compelling narrative about their alternative chosen path.
- The candidate must have confidence to respectfully speak up, exchange feedback, and share ideas without hesitation.
- The candidate must have a track record of going above-and-beyond expectations to achieve outstanding results.
- The candidate must have demonstrated leadership and a track record of developing and growing people.

- The candidate must have professional written and spoken English with excellent presentation skills.
- The candidate must have experience with Linux Debian or Ubuntu preferred.

- The candidate must have the ability to travel internationally twice a year, for company events up to two weeks long.
