A leadership role overseeing the visual design team at Canonical, responsible for maintaining brand consistency, driving innovative design projects across digital and print mediums, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to enhance user experiences and support the company's open source initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and contribute to the visual design practice supporting brand and site experiences.
Ensure consistency across touchpoints by applying and evolving existing design guidelines.
Manage a team of visual designers responsible for brand and site-related work.
Drive innovation, set design direction, and maintain quality in visual design projects.
Review work critically, provide constructive feedback, and support professional growth of team members.
Contribute hands-on design work when necessary based on capacity or project complexity.
Oversee and improve operational workflows and production processes.
Collaborate with stakeholders to define and validate project outcomes.
Evolve design systems and guidelines to ensure quality and efficiency.
Coordinate with design leadership to develop and mature design practices.
Requirements
Experience managing complex projects and a team of designers while remaining actively involved in design work
Advanced knowledge of visual design principles including typography, layout, colour, and systems demonstrating broad experience
Strong processes understanding and ability to manage ambiguity, competing priorities, and limited resources with the ability to switch modes
A portfolio demonstrating excellence in leading design process and execution especially visually in diverse organisations
Exceptional educational achievement in design, or a compelling narrative about your alternative chosen path
Professional written and spoken English
Willingness to travel up to 4 times a year for internal events up to two weeks long
Experience applying and evolving existing design guidelines to ensure consistency across touchpoints
Ability to lead a variety of projects including marketing campaign assets, data visualization, print, and UI design related projects
Ability to collaborate closely with design systems and site teams, influencing UI of digital experiences
Experience driving cross-department collaboration and leading innovation in visual design
Experience reviewing work critically and constructively, striving for excellence and consistency through direct feedback
Ability to contribute hands-on design work when capacity or complexity requires it
Experience working with stakeholders, especially Marketing, Web Engineering, and Design Systems Directors, to clearly define and validate outcomes
Ability to evolve design systems and guidelines to drive consistent quality and improve efficiency
Experience coordinating with design leadership to mature collective practice and share work to strengthen culture
