Job Description
A senior mechanical engineering specialist responsible for designing, reviewing, and overseeing HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems for large-scale projects across various sectors, providing technical leadership, client interface, and project management support within a multidisciplinary team.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform and direct complex HVAC system design, including ductwork, piping, and equipment selection for large-scale buildings.
- Independently perform Mechanical disciplines work and assist with Plumbing and Fire Protection designs as needed.
- Interface with clients and design team members to ensure project coordination and communication.
- Serve as QAQC reviewer and oversee technical quality of engineering work.
- Lead, mentor, and provide technical guidance to designers and engineering staff.
- Prepare Revit BIM models of HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems from schematic to construction phases.
- Review and approve shop drawings for compliance with specifications and contract documents.
- Participate in project meetings, site visits, and construction oversight to verify conditions and progress.
- Respond to RFIs, review change orders, and support construction document development.
- Lead or participate in value engineering sessions to optimize project design and costs.
Requirements
- Minimum of 10 years of related experience in mechanical engineering.
- Current Professional Engineer (PE) license in the United States.
- Strong knowledge of Life Safety Codes.
- Advanced knowledge of mechanical engineering principles and practices.
- Ability to serve in QAQC process and as an independent reviewer.
- Must be a critical thinker and highly analytical.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong ability to interface effectively with clients and members of the design team.
- Able to effectively handle multiple projects simultaneously.
- Experience in computer applications for engineering design programs such as Revit, Trane Trace, or Trane 3D Plus.
- Ability to perform complex design of ductwork, piping, and equipment selection for HVAC systems for large-scale buildings.
- Ability to prepare Revit BIM modeling of construction drawings of HVAC systems from schematic design to construction administration phases, including layout, sketches, and detail drawings.
- Ability to perform Revit BIM modeling for plumbing and fire protection systems as necessary.
- Experience reviewing and accepting shop drawings for compliance with specifications and contract documents.
- Experience conducting site visits to verify existing conditions and observe construction progress, including physical walk-through of sites.
- Ability to attend and participate in construction meetings and owner, architect, and construction administration (OAC) meetings with an understanding of project budget.
- Experience participating or leading value engineering sessions with architectural and engineering teams.
- Experience conducting staff development activities including work planning, budget development, and scheduling in conjunction with the Project Manager.
- Ability to respond to RFIs and review change orders in the preparation of construction documents.
- Physical ability to conduct site visits, which may require physical walk-through of sites.
- LEED accreditation is preferred.
