Job Description

This position involves leading the mechanical engineering team in designing and overseeing HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems for large-scale projects across various sectors, providing technical leadership, ensuring quality standards, and collaborating with clients and project teams throughout all project phases.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform and direct complex HVAC system design, including ductwork, piping, and equipment selection for large-scale buildings.
  • Independently handle all Mechanical disciplines and assist with Plumbing and Fire Protection designs as needed.
  • Interface with clients and design team members to ensure project requirements are met.
  • Serve as QAQC reviewer and oversee the review of shop drawings for compliance.
  • Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and guidance to designers and engineering staff.
  • Prepare Revit BIM models of HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems throughout project phases.
  • Review and approve shop drawings, change orders, and RFI responses to ensure adherence to specifications.
  • Conduct site visits to verify conditions and observe construction progress.
  • Participate in or lead value engineering sessions to optimize project design and costs.
  • Coordinate with project team members and attend project meetings, including owner and architect meetings.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 10 years of related experience in mechanical engineering.
  • Current Professional Engineer (PE) license in Mechanical Engineering in the United States.
  • Strong knowledge of Life Safety Codes.
  • Advanced knowledge of mechanical engineering principles and practices.
  • Ability to serve in QAQC process and as an independent reviewer.
  • Must be a critical thinker and highly analytical.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong ability to interface effectively with clients and members of the design team.
  • Able to effectively handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Experience in computer applications for engineering design programs such as Revit, Trane Trace, or Trane 3D Plus.
  • Ability to perform complex design of ductwork, piping, and equipment selection for HVAC systems for large-scale buildings.
  • Ability to prepare Revit BIM modeling of construction drawings of HVAC systems from schematic design to construction administration phases, including layout, sketches, and detail drawings.
  • Ability to perform Revit BIM modeling for plumbing and fire protection systems as necessary.
  • Experience in reviewing and accepting shop drawings for compliance with specifications and contract documents.
  • Experience in conducting site visits to verify existing conditions and observe construction progress, including physical walk-through of sites.
  • Ability to attend and participate in construction meetings and owner, architect, and construction administration (OAC) meetings with an understanding of project budget.
  • Experience in participating or leading value engineering sessions with architectural and engineering teams.
  • Experience in conducting staff development activities including work planning, budget development, and scheduling in conjunction with the Project Manager.
  • Ability to respond to RFIs and review change orders in the preparation of construction documents.
  • Experience in overseeing, guiding, mentoring, and providing technical leadership to designers and engineering team members.
  • Experience in overseeing the use of engineering software related to energy modeling.
  • Must be a fully qualified professional capable of performing work with a high degree of latitude, including some ambiguity in work.
  • Physical ability to conduct site visits that may require walking through construction sites.
