Job Description
This position involves leading the design and oversight of HVAC systems for large-scale buildings, including modeling, equipment specification, and coordination with project teams, while providing technical leadership and ensuring project quality and compliance.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and oversee HVAC systems, including ductwork, piping, and equipment selection for large-scale buildings
- Perform and lead complex Mechanical design tasks independently across disciplines
- Assist with Plumbing and Fire Protection system designs as needed
- Provide technical leadership, guidance, and mentorship to design team members
- Review and approve shop drawings for compliance with specifications and contract documents
- Create Revit BIM models for construction drawings of HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems
- Specify mechanical equipment such as boilers, chillers, and air handling units
- Participate in client interactions, project meetings, and site visits to verify conditions and observe construction progress
Requirements
- Minimum of 8 years of related experience required.
- Current Professional Engineer (PE) license in Mechanical Engineering in the United States required.
- Strong knowledge of Life Safety Codes required.
- Experience in performing complex design of ductwork, piping, and equipment selection for HVAC systems for large-scale buildings.
- Ability to work independently in all Mechanical disciplines with no oversight or guidance.
- Experience in preparing Revit BIM modeling of construction drawings of HVAC systems from schematic design to construction administration phases, including layout, sketches, and detail drawings.
- Experience in performing Revit BIM modeling for plumbing and fire protection systems as necessary.
- Specify mechanical equipment such as boilers, chillers, and air handling units.
- Review and accept selective shop drawings for compliance with specifications and contract documents.
- Experience in reviewing RFIs and change orders in the preparation of construction documents.
- Conduct job site visits to verify existing conditions and observe construction progress, including physical walk-through of site.
- Attend and participate in construction meetings.
- Interface effectively with clients and members of the project team.
- Participate or lead value engineering sessions with Architectural Engineering team.
- Respond to RFIs and review change orders related to construction documents.
- Represent the company in project activities and direct activities of project team members.
- Serve on internal and/or professional committees as required.
- Ability to develop and present annual performance reviews for less experienced staff.
- Oversee, guide, mentor, and provide technical leadership to designers and engineering team.
- Conduct staff development activities including work planning, budget development, and scheduling in conjunction with the Project Manager.
- Ability to handle multiple projects effectively.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Must be a critical thinker and highly analytical.
- Engage effectively with clients.
- Experience with computer applications for engineering design programs such as Revit, Trane Trace, or Trane 3D Plus.
- Must complete mandatory compliance training and adhere to internal policies and Code of Conduct as a condition of employment.
