Job Description
This position involves designing plumbing and fire protection systems for various building projects, preparing calculations and drawings, reviewing specifications and shop drawings, and collaborating with clients and project teams. The role may also include field visits, mentoring staff, and participating in project management activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Design piping and equipment selection for plumbing and fire protection systems for building projects.
- Prepare calculations and production drawings for plumbing and fire protection systems.
- Review shop drawings for compliance with specifications and contract documents.
- Specify plumbing and fire protection equipment such as sprinklers, sewerage, and medical gas systems.
- Conduct site visits during construction to monitor project progress and compliance.
- Participate in or lead value engineering sessions with the architectural and engineering team.
- Interface with clients and project team members in meetings and communications.
- Research and respond to emergent technical issues as needed.
- Mentor and lead activities of less experienced staff.
Requirements
- Bachelor or Master’s degree in Engineering required.
- Minimum of 4 years of related experience required.
- Experience in designing piping and equipment selection for plumbing and fire protection systems for building design, including performing calculations with supervisory review, preparing production drawings from schematic to construction phases, editing specifications, specifying plumbing and fire protection equipment such as sprinkler, sewerage, and medical gas systems, and reviewing shop drawings for compliance.
- Ability to independently perform designs of plumbing and fire protection systems for smaller, less technical projects requiring supervision of a senior engineer for complex projects.
- Experience in interfacing effectively with clients and project team members by attending Owner, Architect, Construction Administration (OAC) meetings in conjunction with project budget.
- Experience conducting field site visits during construction phases, including physically walking through the site independently.
- Willingness to perform overtime work and travel as required.
- Experience in computer applications for engineering design programs, specifically Revit.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to effectively handle multiple projects simultaneously.
