Job Description
This position involves designing plumbing and fire protection systems for various building projects, including new construction and renovations, while collaborating with clients and project teams, overseeing technical details, and participating in field inspections and staff development.
Key Responsibilities
- Design piping and equipment selection for plumbing and fire protection systems for building projects.
- Prepare calculations and production drawings for plumbing and fire protection systems from schematic to construction phases.
- Review shop drawings for compliance with specifications and contract documents.
- Specify plumbing and fire protection equipment such as sprinklers, sewerage, and medical gas systems.
- Interface with clients and project team members during meetings and site visits.
- Conduct or lead value engineering sessions with the architectural engineering team.
- Mentor and oversee activities of less experienced staff.
- Perform field site visits during construction to monitor project progress.
Requirements
- Current Professional Engineer (PE) license in Mechanical or Fire Protection Engineering (FPE) in the United States required.
- Minimum of 4 years of related experience required.
- Experience in designing piping and equipment selection for plumbing and fire protection systems for building design, including performing calculations using correct parameters with supervisory review.
- Ability to prepare production drawings of plumbing and fire protection systems from schematic to construction design phases.
- Ability to edit specifications relating to existing or new projects.
- Ability to specify plumbing and fire protection equipment such as sprinkler, sewerage, and medical gas systems.
- Experience reviewing shop drawings for compliance with specifications and contract documents.
- Ability to interface effectively with clients and project team members by attending Owner, Architect, Construction Administration (OAC) meetings in conjunction with project budget.
- Willingness to independently research as needed and respond to emergent issues.
- Ability to participate or lead value engineering sessions with Architectural Engineering team.
- Ability to conduct staff development activities, including mentoring and training presentations, and to direct activities of less experienced staff.
- Willingness to conduct field site visits during the construction phase, including physically walking through the site independently.
- Willingness to perform overtime work and travel as required.
- Proficiency in computer applications for engineering design programs, specifically Revit.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to effectively handle multiple projects simultaneously.
