Job Description
This senior leadership role involves developing and executing strategic plans to grow and lead the offices in San Diego and Irvine, fostering a high-performance, inclusive culture, and representing the firm's Living-Centered Design ethos through client engagement, business development, and team development.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and lead a high-performance, diverse, and inclusive leadership team for the San Diego and Irvine offices.
- Create and implement a strategic business plan to drive office growth, branding, and client engagement.
- Partner with leaders to grow the office's top-line revenue and achieve financial targets.
- Identify, assess, and develop client leadership to enhance client engagement and satisfaction.
- Evaluate and build a strong leadership team to support office expansion and impact.
- Champion and foster a design-focused culture emphasizing diversity, equity, and inclusion.
- Represent and promote the office and firm within the community to enhance brand visibility.
- Lead activities that support office growth through strategic planning, market building, and business development.
- Oversee and support staff development, mentoring future leaders, and employee engagement initiatives.
- Ensure adherence to best practices in project management, risk management, and office profitability.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (Master's degree preferred).
- 15 years minimum experience with a proven track record of business development success and top-line growth.
- Proven ability to develop and lead a high-performance, diverse, and inclusive leadership team for the San Diego and Irvine California offices of CannonDesign.
- Experience in developing and implementing a strategic business plan for an office, including strategies for growth, branding, and client engagement.
- Ability to partner with Market Leaders, Service Leaders, Business Development Leaders, and Client Leaders to grow the business volume of the office and the firm, with a personal goal of achieving top line success of $3.0 million per year.
- Experience in identifying, assessing, and evaluating Client Leaders, and in providing mentorship and training to advance client leadership practices.
- Experience in evaluating and addressing senior talent needs to build a strong leadership team capable of expanding impact and growth.
- Ability to establish actions to implement the firm’s business plan to grow top line, optimize collaboration and integration, and expand markets and services.
- Championing and demonstrating ownership and accountability for the growth and success of the office.
- Ability to champion and promote Living-Centered Design ethos and integrate it into office culture, client interactions, and community engagement.
- Experience in fostering a design-focused culture that values diversity, equity, and inclusion, and advocating for the impact of design.
- Ability to develop and execute a yearly strategic business plan for the office, including key strategies for top line development, branding, and client engagement.
- Experience in engaging and partnering with clients on billable project work, with a focus on high-level client relationships and satisfaction.
- Ability to devote approximately 45% of time to activities that advance the firm’s brand and develop new business opportunities, 30% to engaging with clients on billable projects, and 15% to office leadership activities.
- Effective communication skills to represent office leadership and staff in firm-wide meetings, conferences, and internal communication processes.
- Willingness and ability to travel as required.
- Demonstrated skills in energizing, inspiring, motivating, and developing high-performing teams.
- Ability to demonstrate sound approach regarding risk management and mitigation.
- Strong business acumen and ability to execute strategic initiatives.
- Demonstrated championing of ethical culture, collaboration, fairness, entrepreneurial behavior, and innovation.
- Ability to work effectively with Human Resources, Regional Directors, and other leadership to mentor and develop staff and address talent needs.
- Compliance with mandatory training and adherence to internal policies and the Code of Conduct as a condition of employment.
