Job Description
This role involves designing HVAC systems, including ductwork, piping, and equipment selection, managing projects from schematic design to construction, and collaborating with clients and teams in various building sectors. The position requires technical expertise, project management skills, and the ability to produce detailed construction drawings using Revit BIM software.
Key Responsibilities
- Design ductwork, piping, and select HVAC equipment independently on assigned projects
- Assist with plumbing and fire protection system designs as needed
- Supervise or provide project management within the mechanical discipline, including monitoring project progress and budget
- Calculate heating and cooling loads, and design ductwork and piping layouts using energy modeling software
- Create Revit BIM models of HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems from schematic to construction phases
- Review shop drawings for compliance with specifications and contract documents
- Interface with clients and project team members, attend meetings, and respond to RFIs and change orders
- Conduct site visits to verify conditions and observe construction progress
- Coordinate work activities with team members and participate in business development and marketing activities
Requirements
- Bachelor or Master’s degree in Engineering required.
- Bachelor or Master’s degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited program preferred.
- Minimum of 6 years of related experience required.
- Current PE (Professional Engineer) license in the United States preferred.
- LEED accreditation preferred.
- Must possess a working knowledge and experience in engineering design programs such as Revit, Trane Trace, or Trane 3D Plus, and be able to effectively handle multiple projects.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to independently perform and direct design of ductwork, piping, and equipment selection for HVAC systems on assigned projects.
- Ability to calculate heating and cooling loads, and design ductwork and piping using energy modeling software.
- Ability to prepare Revit BIM modeling of construction drawings of HVAC systems from schematic design to construction administration phases, including layout, sketches, and detail drawings.
- Ability to perform Revit BIM modeling for plumbing and fire protection systems as necessary.
- Ability to review shop drawings for compliance with specifications and contract documents.
- Ability to interface effectively with clients and project team members, attend Owner, Architect, Construction Administration (OAC) meetings, and respond to RFIs and review change orders.
- Ability to conduct job site visits to verify existing conditions and observe construction progress, including physical walk-throughs.
- Must be able to coordinate work activities on specific projects with several persons at various levels of capability.
- Must be able to perform other duties as assigned, including assisting with Plumbing and Fire Protection Designs and supervising or providing project management within the mechanical discipline.
