Job Description
This position involves designing and managing HVAC systems, including ductwork, piping, and equipment selection, while collaborating with project teams and overseeing project execution from schematic design to construction administration within various building sectors.
Key Responsibilities
- Design ductwork, piping, and select HVAC equipment independently on assigned projects
- Assist with plumbing and fire protection system designs as needed
- Supervise or provide project management within the mechanical discipline, including monitoring progress and budgets
- Calculate heating and cooling loads, and design ductwork and piping layouts using energy modeling software
- Create Revit BIM models of HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems from schematic to construction phases
- Review shop drawings for compliance with specifications and contract documents
- Interface with clients and project team members, attend meetings, and respond to RFIs and change orders
- Conduct site visits to verify conditions and observe construction progress
- Participate in construction meetings and coordinate work activities on projects
Requirements
- Bachelor or Master’s degree in Engineering required.
- Bachelor or Master’s degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited program preferred.
- Minimum of 6 years of related experience required.
- Current Professional Engineer (PE) license in the United States preferred.
- LEED accreditation preferred.
- Must possess a working knowledge and experience in engineering design programs such as Revit, Trane Trace, or Trane 3D Plus, and be able to effectively handle multiple projects.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to independently perform and direct design of ductwork, piping, and equipment selection for HVAC systems on assigned projects.
- Ability to calculate heating and cooling loads, and design ductwork and piping using energy modeling software.
- Ability to prepare Revit BIM modeling of construction drawings of HVAC systems from schematic design to construction administration phases, including layout, sketches, and detail drawings.
- Ability to perform Revit BIM modeling for plumbing and fire protection systems as necessary.
- Ability to review shop drawings for compliance with specifications and contract documents.
- Ability to interface effectively with clients and project team members, attend Owner, Architect, Construction Administration (OAC) meetings with an understanding of project budget.
- Ability to respond to RFIs and review change orders in the preparation of construction documents.
- Willingness to conduct job site visits to verify existing conditions and observe construction progress, including physical walk-throughs.
- Ability to participate in construction meetings.
- Physical ability to perform site visits which frequently require a physical walk-through of the site.
- Ability to coordinate work activities on specific projects with team members of various capability levels.
- Willingness to participate in business development and marketing activities.
- Must complete mandatory training, including compliance training, within required timeframes and adhere to internal policies and the Code of Conduct.
