Job Description

This position involves designing HVAC systems, including ductwork, piping, and equipment selection, preparing construction drawings using Revit BIM, and collaborating with project teams on various building projects such as educational, healthcare, and commercial facilities. The role also includes site visits, reviewing shop drawings, and supporting project documentation under the supervision of a licensed engineer.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design HVAC systems, including ductwork, piping, and equipment selection, for building projects.
  • Assist with plumbing and fire protection system designs as needed.
  • Calculate heating and cooling loads and develop system layouts using energy modeling software.
  • Create Revit BIM models of HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems from schematic to construction phases.
  • Review shop drawings for compliance with specifications and contract documents.
  • Specify mechanical equipment such as boilers, chillers, and air handling units.
  • Conduct site visits to verify existing conditions and observe construction progress.
  • Interface with clients and project team members during meetings and project coordination.

Requirements

  • Bachelor or Master’s degree in Engineering required.
  • Bachelor or Master’s degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited program preferred.
  • Minimum of 4 years of related experience required.
  • Experience in designing HVAC systems, including performing calculations of heating and cooling loads, and designing ductwork and piping using energy modeling software.
  • Ability to perform Revit BIM modeling of construction drawings for HVAC systems from schematic design to construction administration phases, including layout, sketches, and detail drawings.
  • Ability to perform Revit BIM modeling for plumbing and fire protection systems as necessary.
  • Experience in specifying mechanical equipment such as boilers, chillers, and air handling units.
  • Experience in reviewing shop drawings for compliance with specifications and contract documents.
  • Experience in interfacing effectively with clients and project team members by attending Owner, Architect, Construction Administration (OAC) meetings in conjunction with project budget.
  • Ability to independently research as needed and respond to emergent issues.
  • Experience in gathering information to respond to RFIs and review of change orders in the preparation of construction documents.
  • Ability to perform job site visits to verify existing conditions and observe construction progress, including physical walk-through of sites.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in computer applications for engineering design programs such as Revit, Trane Trace, or Trane 3D Plus.
