Job Description
This position involves supporting electrical engineering projects through preparing construction drawings, designing systems such as lighting and power distribution, conducting site visits, and collaborating with a multidisciplinary team under the supervision of a licensed engineer, primarily in educational, healthcare, and commercial building sectors.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare basic construction drawings and specifications of electrical systems for building projects
- Design electrical systems such as lighting, power distribution, communications, and fire alarm systems
- Analyze engineering documents and layout electrical components and systems
- Research and resolve design issues related to electrical systems
- Apply electrical codes to building power distribution and circuiting design
- Review and markup shop drawings and submittals
- Assist in responding to RFIs and reviewing change orders
- Conduct site visits to verify existing conditions and observe construction progress
Requirements
- Bachelor or Master’s degree in Engineering required.
- Bachelor or Master’s degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited program preferred.
- Minimum of 2 years of related work experience required.
- EIT or FE certification preferred.
- Must have strong communication, teamwork, organizational skills, and the ability to handle multiple projects.
- Experience in computer applications for engineering design programs such as Revit, Navisworks, or similar applications preferred.
- Ability to prepare basic construction drawings and specifications of electrical engineering systems for building construction under supervision.
- Ability to design lighting, power distribution, communications, and telecommunication systems for healthcare, education, higher education, and commercial clients, including fire alarm systems, under supervision.
- Ability to analyze engineering documents and layout systems regarding components and parts.
- Ability to research and respond to design issues.
- Knowledge of electrical code for the application of building power distribution design and circuiting.
- Ability to recommend improvements with reference standards and processes to improve quality, coordination, and streamline production efforts.
- Ability to assist in the review and markup of shop drawings and submittals.
- Ability to assist in gathering information to respond to RFIs and review change orders in the preparation of construction documents.
- Ability to conduct job site visits to verify existing conditions and observe construction progress, including physical walk-through of site.
- Physical ability to perform site visits that require a physical walk-through of the site.
