Job Description

The Senior SCADA Commissioning Engineer at Blue Ridge Power is responsible for commissioning SCADA systems for utility-scale solar and battery storage projects, ensuring compliance with engineering standards and specifications while supporting multiple projects across various states.

Responsibilities

  • Support commissioning of SCADA systems by confirming design against installation in the field.
  • Develop project-specific written commissioning procedures.
  • Review pre-functional checklists and functional testing procedures.
  • Lead commissioning of Power Plant Controller, HMI, communication gateways, PLC, and protection relays.
  • Troubleshoot failed equipment during the commissioning process.
  • Lead Utility required SCADA testing and checkouts.
  • Support network commissioning by updating configuration of Ethernet switches and firewalls.
  • Verify field data to the SCADA system.
  • Collaborate with SCADA vendor to troubleshoot communication integration issues.
  • Review work order tickets with OEMs and Vendors for failed equipment.
  • Create and manage equipment RMA processes.
  • Adhere to Health, Safety Environmental, and Sustainability Policies.

Requirements

  • 6 years of experience in developing SCADA configurations for automation controllers and software such as SEL-RTAC, Ignition, and other PLCs.
  • Strong understanding of major electrical equipment such as switchgear, VAR systems, Inverters, reclosers, and MV transformers.
  • Proficiency in reading design documents such as utility-scale solar, BESS, substation design plans, and equipment specifications.
  • Knowledge and expertise in troubleshooting utility-scale DAS SCADA equipment, communications hardware, meteorological sensors, etc.
  • Intermediate understanding of IEEE 2800, MOD Testing and PSSE, and PSCAD Modeling.
  • Strong written and verbal communication and presentation skills.
  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related field of study is required; an electrical-focused degree is strongly preferred.
  • Must possess and maintain a current valid driver's license.
  • Must be able to comply with all company safety standards and procedures, including OSHA requirements.
  • Must be able to sit, stoop, kneel, bend, stand, or walk short to long distances for 8-10 hours daily.
  • Must be able to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 pounds occasionally.
