Job Description
The Heavy Civil Operator position at Blue Ridge Power involves safely operating heavy equipment such as excavators, bulldozers, and haul trucks for solar project construction and maintenance, while ensuring compliance with safety regulations and performing necessary equipment maintenance.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate heavy equipment such as excavators, bulldozers, and haul trucks safely.
- Comply with safety rules, regulations, and procedures.
- Read and interpret drawings and specifications for civil and erosion control construction.
- Perform maintenance and inspections on equipment to ensure safe operations.
- Maintain company vehicles and tools in good working order.
- Communicate issues with equipment and work effectively in a team environment.
- Perform necessary maintenance and housekeeping on construction sites.
Requirements
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- 2 years experience operating either bulldozers, excavators, haul trucks, or a combination of the mentioned equipment.
- Ability to perform all assigned tasks in a safe and effective manner.
- Must be able to follow Company safety rules and all other Company policies.
- Must demonstrate BRP employee competencies Grit, Collaboration, Ownership, Creativity.
- Must be able to properly grease, fuel and maintain equipment they are operating.
- Must be able to communicate issues with equipment they are operating.
- Must be able to inspect equipment to ensure safe operations.
- Ability to understand and communicate information and work in a team environment.
- Must always wear personnel protective equipment, i.e., Hard hats, safety glasses, safety harnesses, ear protection, fire retardant clothing, as required and respirators when required.
- This position involves Heavy Work exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
- Work is performed outside and includes exposure to extreme cold, heat, inclement weather, and noise.
- Must have the endurance necessary to perform these duties throughout a standard ten (10) or twelve (12) hour day according to the schedule.
- Be on time and ready to work at the start of each standard shift.
