Job Description
The Pilot Line Manager at Blue Current oversees the production of high-energy, safe silicon solid-state batteries by managing manufacturing processes, leading technical teams, and ensuring quality and safety standards in a fast-paced, innovative environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage the manufacturing technician team for daily battery cell production activities.
- Support prototype cell manufacturing, sample production, and process development.
- Produce battery components such as powders, electrodes, and assemblies.
- Create plans and schedules for manufacturing prototype batteries and samples.
- Manage raw material and component inventory and procurement.
- Characterize cell materials using analytical techniques and interpret results.
- Identify process and machine improvements in collaboration with process engineers.
- Maintain a safe work environment and manage hazardous waste and cleaning areas.
- Perform preventative maintenance and calibrations on equipment.
- Document materials and processes accurately and update data sheets.
Requirements
- Previous team management experience of 5 years or more.
- Experience working in an environment that requires strong attention to detail and precision.
- Consistent and thorough documentation, and standard operating procedures.
- Experience handling hazardous materials and waste management for lab space.
- Ability to work in a dry room and a glove box for extended periods of time.
- Ability to stand or sit for long periods of time and perform hand intensive repetitive tasks.
- Above-average fine manual dexterity and visual acuity.
- Strong interpersonal and organizational skills and experience working with team members to overcome technical challenges.
- Clear written and verbal skills to logically communicate ideas and thought processes.
- Adherence to lab and work safety policies.
- Experience with powder process and machine including powder mixing, synthesis process, sieving, classification, and handling powders and solvents.
- Experience with roll to roll process and machines such as slot die, gravure, comma coating, calendering, slitting.
- Experience with slurry mixing and handling various types of mixers.
- Experience with battery cell assembly processes such as stamping, stacking, JR winding, ultrasonic welding, pouch sealing.
- Previous glovebox dry room experience.
- Previous chemical manufacturing experience.
- Familiarity with analytical tools such as SEM, XRD, TGA, FTIR, DSC.
- Experience working in a fast-paced lab or manufacturing environment requiring high accuracy execution of processes or experiments.
- Basic knowledge of chemistry, understanding of acid-base concepts, pH, and associated risks.
- Ability to produce battery components powders, electrodes, and assemblies.
- Ability to produce prototype and sample battery cells, supporting manufacturing and R&D teams.
- Ability to manage raw material and component inventory and create purchasing plans.
- Ability to characterize cell materials using analytical techniques such as SEM, XRD, TGA, EIS, and CV.
- Ability to provide feedback on characterization results to understand the impact of material properties on cell performance.
- Ability to identify areas of process and machine improvement and work with process engineering teams to enhance process capability.
- Ability to establish and maintain a safe work environment, including managing hazardous waste and parts cleaning areas in collaboration with EH&S managers.
- Ability to perform frequent preventative maintenance and calibrations on equipment.
- Ability to complete material documentation accurately and in a timely manner with detailed notes and updated data sheets.
- Educational background in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field (preferred).
- Familiarity with analytical tools such as SEM, XRD, TGA, FTIR, DSC (preferred).
- Minimum of 5 years of work experience in a fast-paced lab or manufacturing environment requiring high accuracy.
- Full-time availability and ability to work Monday to Friday.
- Reliable commute or planning to relocate before starting work.
