Job Description

The position involves managing the interconnection, design, and construction of high voltage substations and gen-tie facilities for utility-scale renewable energy projects, ensuring compliance with industry standards and coordinating with various stakeholders throughout project execution.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage interconnection execution activities from NTP through COD, ensuring compliance with utility and ISO requirements.
  • Coordinate high voltage design requirements with cross-functional teams and external partners.
  • Develop and maintain high voltage engineering standards and review subcontractor deliverables.
  • Lead and oversee the design, construction, and commissioning of high-voltage substations and gen-tie facilities.
  • Ensure power system studies, SCADA, metering, telemetry, and telecom systems meet specifications.
  • Provide technical leadership during commissioning, grid testing, and energization procedures.
  • Track milestones, mitigate risks, and manage costs and schedules related to interconnection projects.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or a related technical field (preferred).
  • At least 7 years of experience in utility-scale renewable energy, power generation, transmission, or grid interconnection.
  • Experience with managing the transmission interconnection process for power plants including solar, storage, and large load interconnections.
  • Experience with CAISO and WECC utilities' renewable implementation processes.
  • Knowledge of NEC, NESC, IEEE, and ANSI standards applicable to power systems design and protection.
  • Knowledge of power system protection principles and functionality.
  • Extensive knowledge of interconnection standards and handbooks.
  • Expert knowledge of generating facility high voltage, medium voltage, and substation design and equipment.
  • Proven experience managing IA and LGIA compliance through commissioning and COD.
  • Direct experience working with WECC utilities such as NVE, APS, etc., and CAISO.
  • Strong high-voltage background, including substations, gen-tie facilities, protection systems, and grid integration.
  • Experience with power system studies such as short circuit, arc flash, and reactive power studies (preferred).
  • Ability to manage complex technical deliverables and multi-party coordination independently.
  • Strong communication, organizational, and risk-management skills.
  • Ability to exercise discretion and independent judgment in applying established power systems design techniques, procedures, or standards.
  • Ability to lead teams and external partners without direct authority.
  • Ability to travel to project sites during critical construction and commissioning phases.
  • Familiarity with NERC standards PRC, MOD, BAL (preferred).
  • A Professional Engineering License is preferred.
