Job Description
The Manufacturing Engineer will support the development and production of complex vehicle and electronic components in a multidisciplinary environment, focusing on process design, continuous improvement, and manufacturing launch activities for Aurora's autonomous vehicle technology.
Key Responsibilities
- Support low-volume, high-complexity vehicle integration and electronic manufacturing processes.
- Develop manufacturing models, parts, assemblies, drawings, and shop documentation to support process design and development.
- Create and maintain work instructions, standard operating procedures, process flow diagrams, PFMEAs, and other manufacturing documentation.
- Prepare detailed layouts of facilities, workcenters, and equipment.
- Collaborate with Program Managers to develop and execute APQP-compliant manufacturing plans.
- Guide manufacturing teams through all phases of APQP, including process validation and PPAPs.
- Lead or participate in continuous improvement activities such as Kaizen events.
- Coordinate manufacturing launches of new or revised products, including training and evaluating team performance.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) and a minimum of 3 years of prior relevant experience, or an Advanced Degree in a related field with a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience.
- Experience working in a low-volume, high-complexity production environment supporting vehicle integration and electronic, photronic, electromechanical, and wire harness products.
- Ability to quickly come-up-to speed on new technologies and engineering challenges.
- Experience conducting multidisciplinary rapid problem-solving activities and proposing solutions to prototype and production manufacturing challenges, including Design for Manufacturing (DfM), Design for Assembly (DfA), Design for Cost Procurement (DfC), Design for Inspection Test (DfI), and Design for Service Repair Maintenance (DfS R M).
- Ability to create manufacturing models, parts, assemblies, and drawings to support process design and development.
- Experience creating shop drawings to clarify design intent, document, and annotate tooling.
- Ability to create and maintain work instructions, standard operating procedures, forms, records, checklists, process sequence routing, Process Flow Diagrams (PFD), PFMEAs, and other manufacturing documentation.
- Experience preparing and maintaining detailed layouts of buildings, workcenters, and equipment.
- Ability to work with Program Managers to support development and execution of APQP-compliant program plans.
- Experience supporting and guiding manufacturing teams through all phases of Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP), including designing and developing manufacturing processes, validating processes through MSAs, production trial runs, Run Rate, and PPAPs, and developing control plans.
- Experience leading or participating in Kaizen activities to ensure continuous process and product improvement.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills for clear coordination and reporting.
- Experience coordinating the manufacturing launch of new or revised products, including establishing goals, training team members, and evaluating results.
- Knowledge of basic electrical engineering principles such as basic circuit analysis.
- Knowledge of basic mechanical engineering principles such as tolerance stack-ups.
Benefits & Perks
Compensation/salary range: $94,000 - $151,000 per year
Work schedule: Monday through Friday with occasional weekend work
