Job Description

This role involves leading survey teams, managing survey projects, reviewing survey data, preparing legal descriptions and survey control sheets, and ensuring project budgets and schedules are met, while also mentoring staff and maintaining client relationships in the surveying and land development industry.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and supervise survey staff, including technicians and surveyors.
  • Review and ensure accuracy of survey work, plans, and legal descriptions.
  • Prepare survey documents such as field work orders, control sheets, boundary calculations, and plats.
  • Manage project budgets, schedules, and proposals to ensure timely and within-budget completion.
  • Mentor and train survey staff, conduct staff reviews, and resolve HR issues.
  • Develop and maintain client relationships and participate in marketing and business development.
  • Ensure quality control of survey deliverables and monitor project scope and contract compliance.
  • Coordinate with other disciplines and sub-consultants on multi-discipline projects.
  • Oversee billing, monitor unbilled time, and address past due accounts.
  • Manage field and office survey standards and ensure adherence to procedures.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Surveying from an accredited four-year college or university
  • 6-10 years of related experience and/or training or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Valid driver s license
  • Licensed Land Surveyor
  • Ability to work under minimal supervision while reviewing work done by others
  • Ability to prepare, schedule, and maintain a project budget
  • Ability to accurately prepare legal descriptions with minimal supervision
  • Ability to accurately prepare survey control sheets with minimal supervision
  • Ability to accurately prepare boundary survey calculations with minimal supervision
  • Ability to accurately prepare block sheets for construction staking with minimal supervision
  • Ability to accurately review engineering plans for construction calculations
  • Ability to accurately prepare the title review summaries for ALTA Surveys
  • Ability to accurately calculate lot geometry for subdivision plats
  • Ability to mentor and train office and field surveyors
  • Ability to review completed survey products including Houseline Plats, topographic surveys, plats of survey, ALTA surveys including title, easement plats, dedication plats, lot geometry and subdivision plats, legal descriptions, survey control sheets, block sheets, and construction calculations
  • Ability to review completed Boundary Survey calculations
  • Ability to prepare and monitor project budgets
  • Ability to prepare proposals and ensure proposal protocol is followed
  • Ability to ensure services provided are covered by contract scope
  • Ability to prepare and monitor project schedules and ensure timely completion of projects
  • Ability to participate in marketing, sales, and business development efforts
  • Ability to complete projects on time and within budgets
  • Ability to monitor quality of plats, documents, and other deliverables
  • Ability to develop, maintain, and enhance relationships with existing clients
  • Ability to manage staff and project workload and meet project deadlines
  • Ability to review and approve staff timesheets on time
  • Ability to mentor and provide job coaching for staff and conduct annual staff reviews
  • Ability to assist in resolving HR issues with direct reports
  • Effective communication skills to keep supervisors informed and coordinate with other disciplines and sub-consultants
  • Ability to develop and maintain client relationships
  • Ability to ensure contracts are approved and signed by clients
  • Ability to accurately bill projects including additional services for out-of-scope items
  • Ability to monitor and address unbilled time and resolve past due accounts receivable
  • Ability to address back charges immediately and monitor their status
  • Ability to participate in marketing and business development for new clients
  • Experience in preparing proposals, project schedules, and managing project budgets
  • Experience in monitoring quality of deliverables and maintaining survey standards
  • Experience in managing staff and project workload to meet deadlines
  • Experience in reviewing and approving staff timesheets
  • Experience in mentoring staff and conducting annual reviews
  • Experience in resolving HR issues with direct reports
  • Experience in developing and maintaining client relationships
  • Experience in ensuring contract compliance and accurate billing
  • Experience in marketing, sales, and business development efforts
  • Physical ability to occasionally work in the field performing surveying tasks
