This role involves leading field surveying operations, performing various types of surveys such as topographic, boundary, and construction staking, and mentoring other survey staff to ensure project accuracy and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
Direct instrument persons and complete various types of surveys including houseline, topographic, tree, wetland, boundary, and ALTA surveys.
Perform control surveys, bench loops, and construction staking services within quality standards.
Maintain and operate field survey equipment, ensuring proper care and calibration.
Prepare and electronically file accurate field notes, sketches, and data files.
Coordinate with clients, staff, and site superintendents to ensure project efficiency.
Complete survey calculations and record drawings using CAD software.
Mentor and train survey team members, including instrument persons, interns, engineers, and surveyors.
Review engineering plans for potential field issues and improve survey procedures and standards.
Ensure accurate and timely submission of timesheets and project documentation.
Communicate daily with project managers and clients regarding project status and scope.
Requirements
Must have a High School Diploma and or Surveying Degree with 5-8 years minimum experience
Valid driver s license
Excellent oral and technical written communication skills
Ability to direct instrument persons and other field surveyors
Strong sense of urgency and self-initiative to meet client deadlines
Available to work overtime as needed to complete projects
Available to work in the field in all weather conditions
Desire to learn and improve field skills and survey knowledge
Ability to make independent decisions within the general framework of projects
Must be fluent in the English language
Perform work primarily outdoors at construction sites, landfills, and in traffic, in various terrains, climates, and possibly in adverse weather conditions
Perform moderately strenuous tasks, such as lifting and carrying survey equipment instruments weighing up to 75 pounds over rough terrain
Climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, clear vegetation, dig holes, and pound stakes with hand tools
Stand and walk for extended periods
Use hands to finger, reach with hands and arms, or feel and talk or hear
Understand and accurately use all field survey instruments, including Trimble Business Center and other required software
Properly maintain and take care of field equipment and vehicles, including uploading and downloading data and calibration files
Complete houseline surveying services, topographic surveys, tree surveys, wetland surveys, boundary surveys, ALTA surveys, control surveys, bench loops, construction staking services, record drawings, and as-constructed surveys accurately
Check control sheets and block sheets and coordinate information with office surveyors
Review engineering plans for potential field problems
Mentor and train Instrument persons, Survey Interns, Engineers, and Surveyors in the field
Complete construction calculations and block sheets in CAD
Understand and review engineering plans for potential field problems
Coordinate multiple field staff on job sites efficiently
Find ways to improve abilities to use and understand field equipment and software, and improve standard procedures and quality standards
