The survey crew chief is responsible for leading survey activities such as site leveling, boundary and topographic surveys, and utility measurements, using advanced equipment, while ensuring safety, accuracy, and collaboration on construction and development projects.
Key Responsibilities
Perform survey activities including leveling, traversing, topographic mapping, construction layout, as-built surveys, boundary surveys, and profile and cross-section surveys
Set up, adjust, and operate survey equipment such as total stations, data collectors, and GPS devices
Measure distances, angles, and elevations for staking purposes
Review and adjust survey field calculations as needed
Establish and locate vertical and horizontal control points
Measure utility points including curb, gutter, water, sewer, storm drain, and paving using survey equipment
Prepare accurate field notes and complete as-built drawings
Maintain survey work-issued vehicles, laptops, and equipment
Read and interpret engineering plans
Mentor survey crew members and assist with training and professional development
Requirements
At least 5 years of experience in survey, with at least 1 year at the Crew Chief level
Ability to effectively communicate with contractors, inspectors, and team leaders
Ability to read and interpret engineering plans
Experience performing survey activities such as leveling, traversing, topographic mapping, construction layout, as-built surveys, boundary surveys, and profile and cross-section surveys
Experience setting up, adjusting, and operating Trimble survey equipment including total station, data collector, and GPS equipment
Experience measuring distances, angles, and elevations for staking purposes, and reviewing survey field calculations and adjusting when needed
Experience locating or establishing vertical and horizontal control
Experience utilizing Trimble equipment to measure utility points including curb and gutter, water sewer, storm drain, and paving
Experience preparing accurate field notes and completing as-built drawings
Experience maintaining work-issued vehicles, laptops, and survey equipment
Availability for overnight travel roughly 4-5 nights per month
Possession of a valid driver’s license and ability to commute daily to and from sites using a company-provided truck
