Job Description
The Survey Crew Chief leads field survey operations for land development projects, operating surveying equipment, ensuring data accuracy, and coordinating with contractors and engineers to support residential, commercial, and energy projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead field operations for boundary, topographic, construction layout, and as-built surveys.
- Operate surveying equipment such as Trimble total stations, GPS, and data collectors to gather accurate data.
- Establish and locate vertical and horizontal control points with precision.
- Record detailed field notes and prepare accurate as-built documentation.
- Maintain and troubleshoot survey equipment and company vehicles.
- Guide team members through survey layout and setup tasks.
- Solve on-site challenges and interpret plans to ensure project accuracy.
- Communicate effectively with contractors, inspectors, and engineers.
- Follow safety protocols and quality standards on all survey activities.
Requirements
- Experience as a Survey Crew Chief
- Proven expertise in performing construction staking, ALTA NSPS Land Title, topographic, boundary, and as-built surveys
- Experience operating Trimble total stations, GPS, and data collectors (preferred but not mandatory)
- Strong communication skills with contractors, inspectors, and team leaders
- A proactive approach to solving problems and getting work done right
- Willingness to travel overnight occasionally (preferred but not mandatory)
