Job Description

An Electrical Engineer at Atwell, LLC, designs and manages high-voltage power systems, substations, and renewable energy projects, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to deliver innovative solutions and support the development of utility-scale renewable energy infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

  • Apply electrical engineering principles to design high-voltage systems, substations, and renewable energy power systems.
  • Lead engineering tasks from project initiation to design package completion.
  • Collaborate with civil, structural, SCADA, and protection control engineers to deliver integrated project solutions.
  • Prepare technical documentation including one-line diagrams, studies, specifications, reports, BOMs, and client deliverables.
  • Ensure designs comply with industry standards such as NEC, NESC, IEEE, NFPA, and ANSI.
  • Support project managers with estimating, proposal writing, and client communication.
  • Conduct interdisciplinary reviews and quality assurance/quality control across engineering teams.
  • Perform electrical studies including short circuit, load flow, grounding, harmonics, and arc flash analyses using specialized software.
  • Interface with SCADA systems and vendors for major equipment submittals.
  • Travel occasionally for field walkdowns, client meetings, or construction support.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering ABET Accredited
  • EIT or PE depending on level; Engineer I Internship experience preferred; Engineer II-III EIT preferred or required; Engineer IV-V PE strongly preferred or required
  • 5 to 10 years of experience in electrical engineering with a focus in power systems, renewable energy, or substations
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Bluebeam, MS Office, and at least one power system analysis software such as ETAP, CYMCAP, PSS E, SKM, ASPEN, PSCAD, or EMTP
  • Ability to apply core electrical engineering principles to the design of high-voltage systems, substations, and utility-scale renewable energy projects
  • Experience leading engineering tasks from project kickoff through to design package completion
  • Experience preparing technical documentation including one-line diagrams, studies, specifications, reports, BOMs, proposals, and client-facing deliverables
  • Knowledge of industry standards such as NEC, NESC, IEEE, NFPA, and ANSI, and ability to ensure designs meet these standards
  • Ability to support project managers with estimating, proposal writing, and client communication
  • Experience conducting interdisciplinary reviews and QA/QC efforts across engineering teams
  • Ability to perform electrical studies such as short circuit, load flow, grounding, insulation coordination, harmonics, and arc flash analysis using software tools like ETAP, CYMCAP, PSS E, SKM, ASPEN, PSCAD, or EMTP
  • Experience drafting interconnection studies and evaluating compliance with utility or ISO requirements
  • Ability to translate technical findings into clear client-facing reports
  • Willingness to occasionally travel less than 20% for field walkdowns, client meetings, or construction support
