Job Description
A Distribution Designer at Atwell supports the design and engineering of overhead and underground electrical distribution facilities, working on projects such as infrastructure upgrades, system improvements, and new customer connections, while collaborating with utilities and developers to address technical challenges.
Key Responsibilities
- Design overhead and underground distribution electrical facilities, including system improvements, pole locations, substation, and service design.
- Perform detailed design work on overhead lines, underground feeders, and distribution generation projects.
- Address engineering challenges across diverse projects and collaborate with electric utilities and private developers.
Requirements
- Knowledge of NESC and PENG standards for overhead and underground electrical distribution systems.
- Experience working on distribution, transmission, system improvement projects, substation design, service design, and switch replacements.
- A minimum of 4 years of relevant experience in electrical distribution or related fields is preferred.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD is required.
- Familiarity with engineering design software applications such as PLS CADD, PLS POLE, SPIDACalc, Quick Pole, CDEGS, CYMECAP, CYMEDIST, CYMETCC, SAG10 as specified by the purchaser.
- Ability to apply problem-solving skills for large utility clients and utilize engineering software packages for distribution design.
- Strong math and engineering skills, including structural analysis, sag analysis, basic algebra, and geometry.
- Understanding and adherence to the National Electric Safety Code (NESC) and client requirements.
- Ability to verify as-built conditions in GIS AUD and correct discrepancies with field data as part of engineering submissions.
- Effective communication skills to collaborate with project managers and team leaders regarding workload and project status.
- Physical ability to work on overhead and underground distribution electrical facilities, including tasks such as pole replacement, transformer replacements, vault and switchgear installation, and system upgrades.
- Willingness to work in locations including Denver, Lakewood, Greenwood Village, CO.
