Job Description

The Principal Electrical Engineer at AstrodyneTDI leads large-scale electrical engineering projects, overseeing design, development, testing, and manufacturing of power electronics, while managing project teams, budgets, and ensuring compliance with quality and safety standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage electrical engineering projects from conception to completion, ensuring scope, time, and budget adherence.
  • Oversee project budgets and delegate responsibilities to technical staff.
  • Lead design, development, testing, and manufacturing of electrical equipment or products.
  • Provide mechanical and thermal design input for products.
  • Develop project documentation, policies, procedures, and instructions for equipment or products.
  • Report on development activities, including progress, estimated completion dates, and issues.
  • Participate in performance and salary reviews for engineering team members.
  • Collaborate with sales and marketing to specify new standard products.
  • Contribute to quoting processes by providing engineering BOM costs and time estimates.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electronics Engineering or related discipline
  • Minimum ten years of solid experience in development activities with electronic power conversion products, preferably with established history of successful switch-mode power supply designs
  • High frequency magnetic component design experience
  • Experience debugging EMC issues
  • Extensive knowledge of components utilized in switch-mode power supply design
  • Ability to design advanced switch-mode power supply products with minimal supervision and guidance
  • Experience in designing switch-mode power supplies for testability and manufacturability
  • Experience in designing microcontrollers to report and control power electronics
  • Agency compliance experience with UL, CSA, VDE, CE standards
  • Ability to manage electrical engineering projects from conception to completion, including design, development, testing, and manufacturing of electrical equipment or products
  • Experience overseeing project budgets to assure cost, performance, and reliability targets are achieved
  • Ability to delegate responsibilities to technical staff involved with projects
  • Experience providing input on product mechanical and thermal design
  • Experience developing project documentation such as policies, procedures, and instructions for use of equipment or products
  • Experience in periodic reporting of development activities, providing estimated completion dates, and promptly reporting issues affecting product development
  • Participation in performance and salary reviews for engineering resources assigned to projects
  • Experience working with sales and marketing teams to specify new standard products
  • Participation in quoting processes, providing Engineering BOM cost and time to completion estimates
  • Strong ability to multi-task and adapt in a dynamic work environment
  • Excellent root cause analysis and problem-solving skills
  • Leadership skills to drive projects to completion on time
