Key Responsibilities
- Arevon is recruiting for a Project Financial Controller, PM&C within the Construction department. This is an outstanding opportunity for an individual seeking a dynamic, high-growth work environment in one of the most important industries of the 21st century.
- The Project Financial Controller, PM&C will collaborate with the Development, Procurement, Accounting, Project Finance and Project Management and Construction teams to protect the owner’s capital investment. This role will track the total project budget, maintain alignment with EPC contract requirements, mitigate cost overruns, and manage funding milestones. Reporting directly to the Director of Project Management and Construction, this individual will prepare and manage project budgets, develop concise cash flow forecasts, and update project forecasts in coordination with the Project Manager and other team members.
- The ideal candidate has renewable energy experience and a degree in a related field. They have a proven track record of managing project financial controls and enjoy working within a dynamic, collaborative team. The candidate will bring strong technical skills and a background in engineering, construction, mathematics, finance, or another highly analytical business discipline. Key strengths include budget analysis, organization, clear communication, and the ability to meet tight deadlines for multiple internal stakeholders. - Support the development and audit of the EPC schedule of values used to establish and maintain the project budget.
- Continuous r eview and maintain ing of detailed project budgets in coordination with each Project Manager.
- Perform ongoing budget-to-actual variance analyses and identify cost deviations.
- Maintain commitment, actual cost, accrual, and forecast data, and reconcile project controls reports with the general ledger in coordination with Accounting .
- Develop and maintain forecast-at-completion and cost-to-complete analyses, documenting key assumptions, risks, and changes from the prior forecast.
- Provide internal stakeholders with actionable, forward-looking cost forecasts, including forecast-at-completion, cost-to-complete, and cash flow projections.
- Review and audit vendor invoices with the Project Manager and support the monthly draw process.
- Support construction financing , tax equity, and other project funding draw packages by assembling accurate cost, progress, and forecast documentation.
- Monitor project cash flows and track payments and retainage releases tied to contractual milestones.
- Audit and evaluate proposed change orders submitted by contractors, verifying compliance with the original contract.
- Maintain a consolidated log of approved, pending, and potential change orders, claims, back charges, liquidated damages, and other commercial exposures.
- Track the use and remaining balances of project contingency funds, ensuring Project Managers have an accurate view of available contingency.
- Track delivery milestones payments , logistics costs, and cost variables for high-value, long-lead items.
- In coordination with the Project Manager, verify that physical site progress aligns with contractual milestone definitions before recommending payment approval.
- Prepare reports for stakeholders that clearly present cash flow forecasts, significant payments, and financial risks.
- Prepare concise monthly project controls reporting, including approved budget, commitments, actuals, accruals, forecast-at-completion, contingency, cash flow, and variance explanations.
- Review and provide input to project estimates to assist in the project pricing process and contracting
- Perform scenario and sensitivity analyses to support Project Manager decisions related to schedule impacts, procurement changes, claims, and contingency use.
- Support project financial closeout, including final invoices, retainage release, contract reconciliation, capitalization support, and transition to Operations and Asset Management.
- Work with internal teams and management to identify process improvement opportunities .
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university in engineering, mathematics, construction management, finance, accounting, or related discipline.
- Four or more years of experience in construction project financial controls, estimating, construction management, or a similar role with an owner, developer, or independent power producer.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment and take ownership of processes and procedures.
- Self-motivated, with the ability to work independently.
- Highly skilled with Microsoft Excel.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications, including Word, PowerPoint, Teams, Project, and Outlook.
- Strong practical knowledge of percentage-of-completion accounting, construction job costing, and retainage management.
- Exceptional cross-functional communication skills, including the ability to translate complex accounting principles into clear, practical guidance for non-financial Project Managers.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, organize tasks effectively, and work efficiently.
- Experience with utility-scale solar and/or battery energy storage projects is preferred.
- Experience with project controls software and tools such as Netsuite, Procore, Aconex, SiteTracker, Excel, and Bluebeam is preferred.
- Understanding of large-scale solar cost structures, interconnection milestones, financing processes, and standard commercial EPC contract provisions is preferred.
- CPA, CMA, MBA, PMP, or project controls certification is preferred but not required.
