Job Description
The Software Engineering Manager oversees a team of full-stack developers working on all server-side aspects of smart home security systems, managing projects across diverse technologies, mentoring engineers, and delivering scalable, innovative solutions within a collaborative environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and lead a team of 5-7 full-stack software engineers.
- Oversee the development of backend services, websites, and database systems for smart home security ecosystem.
- Coordinate and deliver cross-functional projects across diverse technologies using Agile methodologies.
- Provide technical mentorship and foster a positive, inclusive team environment.
- Set project timelines, prioritize tasks, and generate work for the engineering team.
- Contribute to the design and development of scalable service-oriented architectures.
- Collaborate on integrating a wide range of IoT and hardware devices with the platform.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, a related field or equivalent work experience
- 8 years of professional software development experience
- 3 years of professional experience managing a team of developers
- Strong technical mentorship skills
- Strong object-oriented programming skills
- Experience with database design and development
- Knowledge of networking concepts, principles, and technologies
- Experience working with physical systems
- Experience developing scalable service-oriented architectures
- Fosters a positive, respectful, and inclusive team environment through day-to-day leadership
- Ability to communicate effectively with engineers and non-engineers alike
- Experience hiring, developing, and managing a diverse and talented team of engineers
- Proven track record delivering large scale, cross-functional projects on time and in a high-quality manner, exploring technical feasibility and prioritization tradeoffs as well as process improvements along the way
- Comfortable navigating competing priorities and ambiguous situations
- Ability to set boundaries, make decisions under pressure, and communicate clearly
- Experience working on backend services, websites, and database design as part of full-stack development
- Experience working with native iOS and Android applications
- Experience with technologies including C, .NET, SQL Server, Kafka, Ember.js
- Ability to self-learn and multi-task effectively
