Job Description
The Senior Power System Engineer at Akaysha Energy will lead power system modeling for large-scale energy storage, renewable energy, and hydrogen projects, focusing on integration into the National Electricity Market. This role involves technical leadership, collaboration with international partners, and optimization of power system models to support strategic energy projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead power system modelling for large-scale energy storage, renewable energy, and hydrogen projects using PSS E and PSCAD.
- Support integration of multi-megawatt systems into the National Electricity Market (NEM).
- Conduct performance studies including R0, R1, and R2 test plans and ensure compliance with Generator Performance Standards (GPS).
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers.
- Evaluate and select critical components such as power conversion and battery systems.
- Investigate advanced control systems for modern inverter applications.
- Support connection application processes including design modelling packages and registration submissions.
Requirements
- BS or MS in Electrical, Control or Power Systems Engineering
- 3 years experience in power system modelling
- Advanced proficiency with PSS E, PSCAD and Powerfactory
- Experience working on utility-scale energy storage system or renewables power system modelling
- Experience in NEM grid connection process including AEMO and NSP requirements
- Experience working on utility-focused engineering projects and/or product design
- Awareness of Australian engineering codes of practices, standards, and guidelines
- Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work with a small, fast-paced team and make critical decisions quickly
- Willingness to learn, adapt and develop in a fast-paced sector
- Willingness to travel periodically
- Must be an Australian citizen, hold permanent residency status or have existing AU working rights
- Compliance with government and client directions regarding vaccination against COVID-19
