Job Description
The Director of Philanthropy at Acumen is responsible for leading efforts to build and engage a community of high-net-worth supporters, securing major gifts, and driving a $200 million fundraising campaign to support innovative solutions to poverty through strategic relationship management and storytelling.
Key Responsibilities
- Build and grow a community of high-net-worth supporters on the West Coast, cultivating deep relationships and securing major unrestricted gifts.
- Represent and promote Acumen's mission to influential philanthropists to inspire transformational giving.
- Lead and contribute to a $200 million fundraising effort by engaging donors and securing significant contributions.
- Develop and implement engagement strategies involving senior leadership to connect with high-potential prospects through events and personalized interactions.
- Identify and connect with new philanthropic networks, peer groups, and donor communities aligned with Acumen’s mission.
- Collaborate with communications and development teams to create compelling stories and materials that inspire donor action.
- Serve as a visible ambassador for Acumen in key philanthropic circles to enhance trust and visibility.
Requirements
- At least 20 years of experience in philanthropic fundraising and relationship management, with a strong record of securing major gifts.
- Demonstrated ability to engage and inspire high-net-worth individuals and their networks.
- Strong understanding of how to design and execute strategic engagement moments with senior leadership participation.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate closely with internal stakeholders, including managing up to the CEO.
- Adept at both one-on-one conversations and high-profile events, and skilled at collaborating with senior leadership to maximize fundraising outcomes.
- Effective storyteller with strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Experience in entrepreneurial environments and a readiness to adapt to evolving opportunities.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively, with a hands-on approach to execution.
- Authorized to work in the US.
- Ability to travel as needed.

Compensation range from $170,000 to $200,000 plus an annual performance-based bonus
