Job Description

The Controller will lead the development and management of the company's accounting infrastructure, ensuring GAAP compliance, financial reporting, system implementation, and team leadership in a high-growth clean energy startup focused on scalable solar power systems and AI-driven solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and establish GAAP-compliant financial reporting framework and processes
  • Manage the end-to-end monthly and year-end close processes
  • Oversee general ledger activities, reconciliations, and journal entries
  • Coordinate and prepare schedules for external audits and ensure audit readiness
  • Streamline and manage corporate expenses, accounts payable, and payment systems
  • Design, select, and implement scalable financial and accounting systems
  • Establish and document internal controls, policies, and procedures
  • Drive process improvements and automation within the accounting function
  • Build, train, and manage a remote accounting team
  • Manage relationships with banks, financial institutions, and affiliates

Requirements

  • Active Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license is required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • At least 7 years of progressive accounting and finance experience.
  • A minimum of 3 years of direct experience as a Controller or Assistant Controller or equivalent management role within the renewable energy sector.
  • Deep and demonstrated expertise in U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and the ability to apply them to complex business issues.
  • Proven experience designing and implementing financial and accounting systems, including selecting and deploying ERP, General Ledger, and integrated financial tools.
  • Experience preparing GAAP-compliant financial statements, including footnotes and disclosures.
  • Experience managing the end-to-end monthly and year-end close process, ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting.
  • Overseeing all general ledger activity, reconciliations, and journal entries to ensure compliance with GAAP and tax regulations.
  • Preparation of schedules and serving as the main point of contact for external auditors to ensure a clean and efficient annual audit process.
  • Streamlining and managing all corporate expenses, accounts payable, vendor payments, corporate cards, and employee expense reporting to ensure timely and accurate disbursements and control of spending.
  • Designing, selecting, and implementing scalable financial and accounting systems (e.g., ERP, GL, integrated tools) to support company growth.
  • Establishing and documenting internal controls, accounting policies, and standard operating procedures to safeguard assets and ensure data integrity.
  • Driving continuous process improvement and automation within the accounting function to accelerate the close cycle and enhance efficiency as the company scales.
  • Building, training, and managing a high-caliber remote accounting team, setting performance metrics, and fostering a culture of accountability and precision.
  • Managing relationships with banks and financial institutions, overseeing cash flow management, treasury functions, and debt covenant compliance.
  • Serving as the main finance point of contact for the parent entity family office and its affiliates, ensuring seamless collaboration, transparent reporting, and alignment of policies across entities.
