Job Description

The Staff Structural Engineer at Redwood Materials will lead structural design initiatives for facilities that support sustainable battery production, managing projects from concept to completion while ensuring compliance with design standards and fostering collaboration within interdisciplinary teams.

Responsibilities

  • Execute and manage structural engineering projects from concept to completion.
  • Develop detailed design drawings and specifications, perform complex structural calculations, and generate comprehensive reports.
  • Monitor construction sites for compliance with design intent and identify opportunities for quality improvement.
  • Analyze and design concrete, steel, and masonry structural elements according to relevant material codes.
  • Drive external design consultants to deliver coordinated construction documents on time.
  • Work independently and within interdisciplinary teams to meet project requirements.
  • Provide direction and mentorship to junior engineers and team members.
  • Interface with internal business units to define project requirements and incorporate feedback.
  • Identify and propose innovative products, materials, and best practices.
  • Develop workflows, templates, and processes to enhance design productivity and quality.
  • Lead discipline coordination efforts and manage project schedules.
  • Serve as the Engineer of Record for most projects.

Requirements

  • Minimum 10 years of relevant professional experience in structural engineering for building-related design projects.
  • Master's Degree in Structural Engineering or Civil Engineering with a Structural emphasis or Bachelor's Degree with 12 years of structural experience.
  • Active Professional Engineer (P.E.) license in the state of Nevada, or eligibility for Nevada comity via an active NCEES record.
  • In-depth knowledge of structural engineering for industrial building structures, including floor loading, lateral force-resisting systems, utility distribution support, equipment anchorage, and vibration.
  • Proficiency with U.S. building codes IBC, ASCE 7, AISC 360, ACI 318.
  • Hands-on experience with Revit, BIM 360, and structural finite element software ETABS, RISA, RAM as well as structural calculation tools Enercalc, Hilti Profis.
  • Comprehensive experience managing RFI responses and submittal reviews throughout construction.
  • Excellent organization and attention to detail.
  • Strong verbal, written, and sketch drawing communication skills.
  • Effective time management and proven ability to drive results under tight deadlines.
  • Highly motivated, proactive, and passionate about sustainability.
  • Skilled in cross-functional teamwork and collaboration.
