Job Description
The Head of Drilling is responsible for leading and managing large-scale geothermal drilling operations, ensuring safety, efficiency, and strategic development of drilling programs while overseeing multidisciplinary teams, vendor relationships, and field activities.
Responsibilities
- •Lead and oversee geothermal drilling operations, ensuring safety and environmental compliance.
- •Manage and coordinate multiple drilling rigs and large-scale drilling programs with budgets up to $100M.
- •Develop and implement strategic and tactical plans for drilling projects, including multi-year roadmaps.
- •Manage multidisciplinary teams, fostering high performance and effective field leadership.
- •Negotiate contracts and manage vendor relationships to optimize contractor performance and project outcomes.
- •Travel to field sites regularly, leading by example and building trust with stakeholders.
Requirements
- •Deep commitment to safety and environmental stewardship, with experience in challenging drilling conditions, operations, and emergency preparedness.
- •Ten (10) or more years of progressive experience in drilling engineering and/or operations, preferably including geothermal, on-shore, unconventional oil and gas, and/or high-complexity wells, with a proven record of delivering complex drilling programs at scale.
- •Experience managing multidisciplinary teams and fostering high performance under changing field conditions.
- •Track record of managing large drilling programs with multiple rigs running in parallel and annual budgets of at least 100 million dollars, focusing on continuous improvement and contractor performance.
- •Ability to lead high-stakes negotiations and contract management.
- •Ability to operate at both strategic and tactical levels, including defining multi-year roadmaps and getting hands-on with field execution.
- •Willingness and ability to travel 30-40% of the time to field sites and drilling locations.
- •Ability to lead by example on-site and build trust with internal and external stakeholders.
