Job Description

The Operational Regulatory Compliance Lead is responsible for managing and enhancing compliance programs related to NERC, ISO, and environmental regulations across SB Energy's renewable energy projects, ensuring adherence to standards, coordinating audits, and working with various stakeholders to maintain regulatory alignment and improve compliance processes.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, execute, and oversee the NERC and ISO compliance program across renewable assets.
  • Manage NERC registration process and coordinate with reliability organizations and stakeholders.
  • Engage with operations and vendors to identify and correct environmental and permitting non-compliance issues.
  • Create and update internal compliance policies and procedures to meet regulatory requirements.
  • Provide compliance expertise during development and construction phases of projects.
  • Assess project documentation for NERC and ISO compliance implications.
  • Manage third-party compliance service providers and integrate their deliverables into internal programs.
  • Conduct internal compliance reviews and implement corrective actions for standards adherence.
  • Track regulatory deadlines and ensure timely submission of compliance documentation.
  • Monitor changes to reliability standards and update internal controls accordingly.
  • Lead internal and external compliance audits and prepare audit materials.
  • Collaborate with operations to verify compliance implementation and respond to regulator requests.
  • Participate in industry workshops and working groups to stay informed on best practices and updates.
  • Maintain comprehensive logs and trackers for all compliance activities.
  • Design and deliver compliance training to internal stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a STEM field is required; a Master's degree is preferred.
  • Deep understanding of NERC reliability standards, including Critical Infrastructure Protection (CIP) standards.
  • Familiarity with electric generation and transmission systems.
  • Ability to read single-line electrical drawings.
  • Experience with compliance requirements, audits, and certifications from TRE, WECC, CAISO, ERCOT, PUCT, and similar authorities.
  • General understanding of compliance requirements with applicable local and state discretionary permits and environmental laws, including the Clean Water Act (CWA) stormwater erosion prevention WOTUS, Clean Air Act (CAA) back-up generation emissions, National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) federal rights-of-way, Endangered Species Act (ESA) take permits, Migratory Bird Treaty Act (MBTA) avian impact avoidance, Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) hazardous waste, California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA), Environmental Planning and Community Right to Know Act (EPCRA) Tier II reporting.
  • Demonstrated ability in evaluating internal controls and conducting compliance assessments.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office tools including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Strong critical thinking, problem-solving, and communication abilities.
  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently and collaboratively across departments.
  • Effective project management and organizational capabilities, with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Up to 10% travel requirement to locations including CA, Texas, San Diego, and Denver.
