Job Description
The Hardware Product Design Mechanical Engineer at Samsara is responsible for designing, developing, and bringing to market industrial hardware products, ensuring they meet customer needs, quality standards, and manufacturing requirements through all phases from concept to mass production.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and bring hardware products from concept to mass production
- Evaluate system features and define product specifications in collaboration with cross-functional teams
- Validate products through engineering testing, customer field testing, and quality assessments
- Own the industrial design, packaging, and installation experience of hardware products
- Leverage manufacturing partners to meet performance, cost, and schedule goals
- Research industry trends and incorporate innovations into product development
Requirements
- Minimum of 5 years of experience shipping hardware programs at scale in partnership with partners overseas.
- Proven record navigating tradeoffs between design, manufacturability, schedule, and cost in a cross-functional environment.
- Experience developing and launching electromechanical components or products in mass production.
- Demonstrated experience designing for automotive, outdoor, industrial, or consumer products.
- Proficiency in plastic and metal part design, CAD modeling, and drafting, preferably using NX.
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or a related field.
- Ability to travel up to 10 domestic and international when necessary.
- Hybrid presence required Tuesday through Thursday onsite at the San Francisco Headquarters.
