Job Description
The Manufacturing Test Engineer at Redwood Materials is responsible for designing, developing, and validating testing systems for new energy storage products, collaborating across mechanical, electrical, and software disciplines to ensure robust manufacturing and field testing processes.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop manufacturing field testers for new electromechanical products
- Collaborate with firmware and hardware teams to develop test coverage and define metrics
- Debug and troubleshoot issues identified during manufacturing testing
- Design and develop manufacturing test hardware, including functional and system power tests
- Lead tester builds and validation efforts such as GRR and SAT
- Work with software teams to develop test automation, self-test, and data analysis tools
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field
- 5 years of technical experience in manufacturing test engineering or a related role
- Experience working with high-voltage systems of 400-2000VDC and 480-800VAC
- Deep technical expertise in at least one aspect of test engineering, with comfort working across disciplines including mechanical, electrical, and software engineering
- Experience working in a high volume manufacturing environment
- Direct experience with battery testers or characterization tools
- Experience developing scalable tools, infrastructure, and design practices for test engineering teams
- Ability to develop and implement manufacturing field testers for a new electromechanical product
- Ability to collaborate with firmware and hardware teams to develop test coverage, define metrics, and align on hardware and firmware features for manufacturing testing implementation
- Ability to debug and root cause issues found in manufacturing test
- Ability to design and develop manufacturing test hardware that may include functional and system power tests
- Experience leading tester builds and validation efforts such as GRR and SAT
- Experience working with firmware software teams to develop test automation, self-test, and data analysis
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to engage effectively with stakeholders at all organizational levels, including executives
- Ability to perform the essential job functions safely and successfully in environments that may include exposure to noise, dust, chemicals, and temperature extremes, while protected by PPE
- Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance
- Ability to work in challenging working conditions, including outdoor environments
- Essential physical requirements such as climbing, standing, stooping, or typing
- Willingness to work occasional weekends, nights, or be on-call as a regular part of the job
- Willingness to undertake occasional travel
