Job Description
A Lead Analytical Laboratory Technician responsible for overseeing and performing chemical, physical, and metallurgical analyses in a laboratory setting, supporting safety, quality, and operational goals within a sustainable materials company focused on recycling and battery supply chain innovation.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and support the laboratory team in safety, quality, learning, and analytical methods.
- Perform routine and non-routine chemical, physical, and metallurgical analytical tasks.
- Manage daily operations of sample intake, prioritization, and auxiliary lab activities.
- Maintain a safe and clean work environment and advocate for safety protocols.
- Coordinate with cross-functional teams to ensure proper material packaging and labeling.
- Conduct sample analysis, verify results, and support data validation and documentation.
- Troubleshoot and manage repairs of laboratory equipment.
- Support method validation, documentation updates, and laboratory process improvements.
- Provide hands-on laboratory work daily, including sample handling and chemical analysis.
- Assist in onboarding, training, and acting as a subject matter expert for lab methods.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in science or related field and 2 years of related experience.
- Experience in laboratory settings, quality settings, or chemical production facilities.
- Experience in typical laboratory practices including waste handling, safe work practices, data management, good documentation practices, and experimental setup and execution.
- Experience with relevant test methods such as ICP-OES, auto-titration, X-Ray Fluorescence, tensile testing, material property testing, etc.
- Experience with sample preparation and analysis, chemical handling, and laboratory hazards.
- Demonstrates ability to perform basic chemistry math and calculations.
- Adept with data acquisition and analysis tools including Laboratory Information Management Systems and Microsoft Office.
- Excellent written, verbal communication, and collaboration skills.
- Ability to regularly lift 35 lbs.
- Comfortable wearing personal protective equipment including lab coats, coveralls, smocks, and respirators.
- Ability to work hands-on in the laboratory, including standing and operating equipment at a lab bench.
- Must be able to work in environments such as office, wet laboratory, chemical plant, outdoor test sites, with exposures to hazardous materials and electrical hazards.
- Willingness to work shifts including Sunday - Tuesday and every other Wednesday, 6am to 6pm or 6pm to 6am, Thursday - Saturday and every other Wednesday, 6am to 6pm or 6pm to 6am, with shift differentials of 10% or 15% respectively.
- Full-time employment status.
