Job Description
The Director of Cathode Technology Development at Redwood Materials leads the development and scaling of processes for producing cathode active materials from recycled resources, focusing on innovation, process optimization, and team leadership to support sustainable lithium-ion battery manufacturing.
Responsibilities
- •Develop and implement manufacturing processes and equipment for scalable, cost-effective production of cathode active materials from recycled sources.
- •Create and execute a technology roadmap aligned with business strategy and customer needs.
- •Lead technology projects related to cathode material development and scaling.
- •Establish relationships with equipment vendors for development support and future capital investments.
- •Create intellectual property and collaborate with legal teams to file patent applications.
- •Provide technical expertise to commercial, business development, and senior management teams.
Requirements
- •A degree in chemistry or chemical engineering; an advanced degree is preferred.
- •At least 7 to 10 years of industrial experience with demonstrated experience in process chemistry, process design and synthesis, chemical reactor design, process scale-up, process engineering, and technology management.
- •Technical expertise in inorganic materials processes, including solids handling, slurry handling, medium-to-high temperature processing of particulate solids, gas-solid separation, gas treatment, drying, filtration, and milling.
- •Recognized as a technology leader and expert in inorganic materials processing.
- •Possessing a deep understanding of cathode synthesis, pCAM synthesis, and how these translate into battery performance is preferred.
- •A demonstrated ability to lead and develop high performance teams.
- •Ability to manage and prioritize activities in a fast-changing environment.
- •A track record of building trust within internal teams and with external customers.
- •Excellent communication skills and the ability to communicate effectively across verbal, visual, and written media.
- •Ability to perform the essential job functions safely and successfully in environments that may include exposure to noise, dust, chemicals, and temperature extremes, while protected by PPE.
- •Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state, and local standards.
- •Ability to work in challenging working conditions which may include exposure to noise, dust, chemicals, and temperature extremes, while protected by PPE, for extended periods of time.
- •Essential physical requirements such as climbing, standing, stooping, or typing.
- •Occasional work weekends, nights, or being on-call as a regular part of the job.
- •Occasional travel requirements.
- •This is a full-time position.
