Job Description
A Chemical Operator at Redwood Materials is responsible for operating, monitoring, maintaining, and troubleshooting complex plant systems in a high-tech chemical manufacturing environment focused on recycling and sustainable battery materials, ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality production processes.
Responsibilities
- •Operate, monitor, and troubleshoot plant systems and equipment
- •Perform in-process analyses and adjust operations to maintain parameters within specifications
- •Ensure safety and performance of plant operations during shifts
- •Respond to and remedy unsafe conditions such as spills and hazards
- •Manage day-to-day operations of continuous production lines, including sampling and equipment actions
- •Analyze trends in plant parameters to respond to process deviations
- •Operate various production equipment including tanks, pumps, filters, heat exchangers, and other machinery
- •Perform routine sampling and analysis to verify product quality
- •Coordinate with engineering and manufacturing teams to execute and communicate instructions
Requirements
- •Experience operating, monitoring, maintaining, and troubleshooting all plant systems in a high-tech chemical plant environment.
- •Ability to perform in-process analyses using process instrumentation and analytics to ensure systems remain within specified parameters.
- •Ownership of equipment and responsibility for maintaining a safe, efficient, and high-quality production environment.
- •Ability to remedy unsafe conditions such as tripping hazards and spills, and report conditions where immediate action cannot be accomplished.
- •Experience with day-to-day operations of a continuously running production line, including sampling, forklift driving, and actions on Ignition and other HMIs.
- •Ability to start-up, shutdown, monitor, inspect, operate, and adjust plant equipment while meeting customer expectations.
- •Ability to analyze trends in plant parameters such as temperature, pressure, pH, and flow to respond appropriately to process deviations.
- •Experience operating production equipment including holding tanks, centrifugal pumps, leaf filters, heat exchangers, electrodeposition machines, metering pumps, wastewater treatment systems, utility manifolds, centrifuges, filter presses, kilns, bulk material conveyance, evaporators, crystallizers, and logistical equipment.
- •Perform routine product sampling and verify analysis results are within expected parameters.
- •Work collaboratively with Engineering and Manufacturing teams to ensure instructions are executed and communicated effectively across shifts.
- •Working knowledge of chemical plant operations and equipment.
- •At least 6 months of relevant experience in chemical plant operations preferred.
- •Skilled in navigating complicated HMIs to troubleshoot and operate equipment.
- •Hazwoper Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response trained or the ability to obtain certification upon hire.
- •Ability to perform physical tasks including bending, lifting, twisting, climbing, standing, and walking multiple levels of a building.
- •Experience working in PPE such as safety shoes, hard hats, disposable coveralls, and Powered Air Purifying Respirators (PAPRs).
- •Ability to complete a respiratory fit test and respiratory medical evaluation.
- •Ability to work with PPE including Tyvek suits and PAPRs for extended periods, up to a full shift.
- •Ability to climb ladders and stairs, and operate and train on equipment such as forklifts, boom lifts, and scissor lifts.
- •Ability to work in environmental conditions including outside, indoors, and in environments with loud noises, extreme heat, and cold.
- •Willingness to work nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
- •Full-time employment with compensation commensurate with experience.
