Job Description

A Chemical Operator at Redwood Materials is responsible for operating, monitoring, and maintaining complex chemical processing equipment in a high-tech plant focused on recycling and sustainable battery materials, ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality production.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate, monitor, and troubleshoot plant systems and equipment
  • Perform in-process analyses and adjust operations to maintain parameters within specifications
  • Ensure safety and performance of plant operations during shifts
  • Respond to and remedy unsafe conditions such as spills and hazards
  • Manage day-to-day operations of continuous production lines, including sampling and equipment actions
  • Analyze trends in plant parameters to respond to process deviations
  • Operate various production equipment including tanks, pumps, filters, heat exchangers, and other machinery
  • Perform routine sampling and submit products for analysis to verify quality
  • Coordinate with engineering and manufacturing teams to execute and communicate instructions

Requirements

  • Experience working in a chemical plant environment with knowledge of chemical plant operations and equipment, with a preference for at least 6 months of relevant experience.
  • Ability to operate, monitor, maintain, and troubleshoot plant systems and equipment including holding tanks, centrifugal pumps, leaf filters, heat exchangers, electrodeposition machines, metering pumps, wastewater treatment systems, utility manifolds, centrifuges, filter presses, kilns, bulk material conveyance, evaporators, crystallizers, and logistical equipment.
  • Ability to perform in-process analyses using process instrumentation and analytics to ensure systems remain within specified parameters and respond appropriately to process deviations.
  • Ability to perform routine product sampling and submit samples for analysis, verifying results are within expected parameters.
  • Ability to analyze trends in plant parameters such as temperature, pressure, pH, and flow to maintain product specifications and safe conditions.
  • Ability to take full ownership of equipment and remedy unsafe conditions such as tripping hazards and spills, and report conditions where immediate action cannot be accomplished.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment to start-up, shutdown, monitor, inspect, operate, and adjust plant equipment while meeting customer expectations.
  • Physical ability to perform tasks including bending, lifting, twisting, climbing, standing, and walking multiple levels of a building, and to perform necessary physical tasks associated with the position.
  • Ability to safely and successfully perform essential job functions consistent with ADA, FMLA, and other standards, including meeting productivity standards.
  • Ability to complete a respiratory fit test and respiratory medical evaluation.
  • Ability to work with PPE including safety shoes, hard hat, disposable coveralls, and Powered Air Purifying Respirators (PAPRs) for extended periods, up to a full shift.
  • Ability to climb ladders and stairs, and operate and train on equipment such as forklifts, boom lifts, and scissor lifts.
  • Willingness to work in difficult conditions including exposure to noise, dust, chemicals, temperature extremes, and environmental conditions such as outside, indoor, loud noises, extreme heat, and cold.
  • Availability to work full-time shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
  • Possession of or ability to obtain HAZWOPER Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response certification upon hire.

Compensation will be commensurate with experience
Work shifts include C Shift (6:00 am - 6:00 pm, Thursday - Saturday, every other Wednesday) and D Shift (6:00 pm - 6:00 am, Thursday - Saturday, every other Wednesday)
Work environment includes outside, office, and indoor conditions with exposure to loud noises, extreme heat and cold
Ability to work nights, weekends, and holidays as needed
Full-time position
Physical requirements include climbing ladders, working at heights, standing, stooping, typing, and working with PPE for extended periods
